This week’s Hurling News

After last Sunday’s narrow loss to Antrim, the Kerry senior hurlers move swiftly back into action on this Sunday, 25 October when they open their Joe McDonagh Cup campaign. Meath will be their opponents at Austin Stack Park where there will be a 1.00p.m. throw in. Unfortunately, under current Government regulations all this weekend’s matches will again be played behind closed doors.

Further rounds of the McDonagh Cup will be on Saturday, 31 October when they travel to meet Westmeath in Round 2 at 1.30pm in Cusack Park. Round 3 will be away to Antrim on Saturday, November 14 at Corrigan Park, Belfast while Round 4 will be at home to Carlow at Austin Stack Park on Saturday, 21 November. The Final is scheduled for Sunday, 13 December as a curtain raiser to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final.

Kerry put up an excellent performance against Antrim in the Allianz League Division 2 Final last Sunday but just came up short at the end, losing by just 3 points, 2 – 23 to 2 – 20.

Minor & U20s

The Kerry minor & U20 hurlers had disappointing outings against Tipperary and Cork in Round 1 of the Munster Championship.  However, exposure to this level of hurling can be a positive thing for all the young players involved and gives them an opportunity to see the standards that have to be reached to be successful at all levels going forward. Thanks to all the players and management for the time and effort that they put in.
