Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Hurling Championship
Group A Round 2
Causeway v Ballyduff
A real Championship feel to this match in a feisty affair that saw both teams finish with 14 men. Perhaps each determined to lay down markers in anticipation of a potential meeting up at the business end of the Championship.

Causeway captain Joseph Diggins and Ballyduff’s Kevin Goulding with referee Ciaran O’Regan.
Ballyduff started the stronger, despite playing into a brisk breeze. Both teams put together some slick passing moves. Indeed, Ballyduff’s first goal was started on their own 21, passed quickly up the dugouts’ wing before Jack Goulding hit past Causeway goalkeeper John Mike Dooley.

Jack Goulding scored 1 – 07 (0 – 06f) for Ballyduff
Causeway trailed 2 – 09 (16) to 0 – 09 (09) as the teams came out for the second half. Ballyduff continued to do enough to maintain a comfortable lead but couldn’t quite put the game to bed. Causeway weren’t going away either. A Billy Lyons goal for Causeway ten minutes from time reduced the gap to just 2 points.

Brandon Barrett (9) hit 0 – 10 (0 – 01f, 0 – 01 65) with Daniel Mahoney (12)
It could easily have ended up a draw as the sliotar was dropped into the Ballyduff square in the dying moments of the game but Ballyduff held on for, on the whole, a deserved win.
