The new Kerry GAA Centre of Excellence – What is it?
It is a two-fold approach involving the following;
Development of Playing facilities and a Clubhouse at Currans Co. Kerry
Partnership with IT Tralee in the Development of a Sports Academy
It is intended that this combined approach will provide an unrivalled resource and facility that reflects the best traditions and proud history of Kerry GAA culminating in the creation of a sustainable legacy for future generations.
Currans Project – What’s Involved?
Works will consist of the Development of a number of Full Size GAA All Weather Sand Based pitches and a full Size GAA Synthetic pitch.
All Pitches will be floodlit to the highest standards.
A Clubhouse & Dressing Room complex will be constructed to serve the Development.
Ancillary buildings and car parking will also be provided.
The facility with be fully landscaped and incorporate the latest developments in energy efficient design and layout.
Sports Academy at IT Tralee – What is it?
Purchase of 48 Acres of Land completed in June 2013
Archaeological Monitoring to commence in Late July / Early August 2013
Design Team to be appointed in late July 2013
Enabling Works Contract to commence in September 2013 and be complete by year end 2013
Construction of two Floodlit all weather pitches and a clubhouse to commence in mid 2014 and be complete by the end of 2014
Construction of the remaining pitches to be completed on a Phased basis thereafter
What is the current Status & timescale for Completion?
This project involves a strategic alliance between Kerry CLG and IT Tralee
This partnership approach will ensure the highest standards in Sports Development and Education and further ensure that economies of scale are maximised.
The works consists of the Development of a Sports Academy representing a Global Best Practice model of social inclusion through Sport, physical activity and inclusive physical education.
There will be a Dedicated GAA Suite comprising of a reception area, dressing rooms, WC facilities, shower facilities, meeting rooms, a players’ lounge and offices
A dedicated GAA all weather flood Lit pitch will also be constructed
Other Features include an international sized indoor sports arena, High performance Gym, teaching gym, hydrotherapy suite, fully equipped teaching spaces and a suite of auditoria
Who is Responsible for the Successful Delivery of the Kerry GAA Centre of Excellence?
A Sub Committee led by the Kerry GAA Development Officer Tim Murphy is now in place and will be responsible for overseeing its development from project inception right through to completion
