No Stopping Templenoe

Templenoe completed a meteoric rise from Division 5 football as recently as 2011, to Division 1 among the elite clubs in the county next season following an emphatic victory over Gneeveguilla in their final Division 2 league game on Saturday last. With promotion to the premier Division in the league for the very first time in their history already guaranteed, the Kenmare District side’s victory ensured that they were promoted to Division 1 as champions pipping their near neighbours Kenmare in the process. What a few weeks it has been for them winning county and provincial honours at Junior grade and the next big date on their calendar will be January 10th when they travel to Liverpool to take on John Mitchels with the winners of that game playing Meath champions Curraha on January 24th, The All Ireland Junior Final is fixed for February 6th in Croke Park.
Rathmore, John Mitchels, Spa and St Marys have all finished on 15 points so there will be a four way playoff to decide who the third side to go up is. The draw sees John Mitchels play Rathmore and Spa play St Marys but finding dates for those games is going to be a big issue given the fact that both St Marys and Rathmore are still involved at Divisional level.
Defeat for Gneeveguilla means that the East Kerry side drop to Division 3 football next season along with Tarbert and Currow. It is Gneeveguilla’s first time in Division 3 since 2002 and indeed since than they enjoyed an unbroken stint in Division 1 between 2006 and 2012.
The final of Division 1 of the League will go ahead in the new year when it will double up with the 2016 fixture between Dr Crokes and Austin Stacks.
