Munster Minor Footballer of the Year – Mark O’Connor (Ciarraí)

Mark O’Connor is unlikely to forget the past two years in a hurry! The Dingle native has the unique distinction of putting two All Ireland Colleges (Hogan Cup) titles and two All Ireland Minor titles back to back – an achievement that most footballers can only dream of. Add in the fact that that he was joint captain of Pobal Scoil Chorca Dhuibhne and led by example as he captained the Minor team to their 13th title - all from the demanding centre field position. Nowhere were those leadership qualities more evident than in the “winner takes all” Munster semi final against Cork in Tralee. His manager, Jack O’Connor, a man not known for dwelling on individual performances, was however moved on that occasion to give due credit to O’Connor; “Mark O’Connor was unbelievable, he led like a caption should lead and if he hadn’t given that performance , I doubt that we would have come out on the right side of the result”. High praise indeed and O’Connor maintained that form for the rest of the championship marking him down as a player for the future. Just for good measure he also added back to back county minor championship titles to his collection a few short weeks ago!
