SFL Div 5 Round 6 Valentia 1.10 Duagh 0.11 2015-08-09 20:55:00

Valentia 1-10 Duagh 0-11.

This game was contested in an overcast but calm and wind free O'Connor Park ,Valentia with the Young Islanders being well in command at the half time whistle on a score of 1-7 to 0-3.

They had a fortuitous goal midway through the first half when Kerry Junior All-Ireland winning midfielder Brendan O' Sullivan saw his long distance free kick spill through the hands of a Duagh defender and into the net. This left the Islanders leading by 1-3 to no score. Valentia's other scorers of that opening half were Brian Falvey(1point) Paul 'Connor (3points,one from a free), Andy Quigley (2points,one a free) and Colm Casey(1point). Full forward Nigel O'Connor scored Duagh's three points, two from frees.

Duagh made it hard for the Young Islanders in the second half by eating into their lead. The score stood at 1-10 to 0-9 midway through when the Islanders were awarded a penalty by referee Billy O'Shea from Keel, Liam George having been fouled. However, Mark Lynch's effort was very well saved by the Duagh goalie Donal Scanlon who dived to his right in doing so. The Islanders were glad to come out on top in a pulsating final few minutes as the score finished at 1-10 to 0-11.

They were relieved as they could only contribute three points to that second half to add to their 1-7 first half tally. These were all free kicks with Andy Quigley contributing one and Paul O'Connor the other two.

For Duagh this was a shooting spree of scores between Nigel O'Connor at 14 and Ger McCarthy at 13. Nigel O'Connor contributed a point from play and two frees in the first half and added three frees in the second half to leave his scoring tally at 6 points. Ger McCarthy had two points from play and added to this with three pointed frees all in the second half.
