Garvey's SuperValu SHC Rd 2B : St Brendans 0-10 Ballyheigue 0-9 2015-07-26 21:19:00

 St Brendans 0-10 Ballyheigue 0-9
There was a lot more at stake than local bragging rights when St Brendans and Ballyheigue clashed in Round 2B (Losers Round) of the Senior Hurling Championship in rain soaked Causeway on Sunday. It was the last chance saloon for both in the Championship and the closeness of the affair reflected the high stakes.

St Brendans had first use of the strong wind that blew into the dressing room goal and Tim Hanafin was on the scoresheet in the first minute with a point for St Brendans who had first use of the elements. Kieran Fitzgerald and John Egan added two more from play and after three minutes St Brendans looked on their way. However, Ballyheigue fought back to level within ten minutes with three pointed frees from Philip Lucid before Kevin Skinner and John Egan (from a free)restored St Brendan's lead as scores began to dry up. Damien Casey responded with a good score for the seasiders and at the break just one point separated the sides - 5 points to 4 - with St Brendans, who had 8 wides in that opening half, just edging it.
Philip Lucid levelled from a free after three minutes of the resumption but John Egan converted three frees of his own after good running by David Griffin drew fouls and Ardfert were 8 to 5 clear. Philip Lucid, despite some misses he would normally convert, had the sides level from frees by the 48th minute and Paudie Carroll had a fine score to put Ballyheigue ahead with seven minutes to go. However, St Brendans and John Egan were not to be denied as the Kerry star pointed twice from play and a free in the 54th and 56th minutes to fashion a narrow victory over their neighbours and gain a place in Round 3.
St Brendans; John Egan 0-7 (6fr), Tim Hannifan, Kevin Skinner and Kieram Fitzgerald 0-1 each.
Ballyheigue: Philip Lucid 0-7 frees, Damien Casey and Paudie Carroll 0-1 each.
