Castleisland Mart Club Championships at the Semi Final stages

Senior Club

The Senior semi finalists are already known. Dr Crokes, fresh from their four point victory over town rivals, Legion, will play Rathmore and Austin Stacks, convincing winners over Intermediate champions Ardfert, will play Dingle. Those semi finals will be played on the weekend of May 17th.

Despite the poor weather conditions, there was plenty of action in the Intermediate and Junior Club Championships last weekend.

Intermediate Championship

Spa and Desmonds have qualified for the semi finals following tough encounters. Spa travelled to Kenmare for the quarter final replay and despite an early goal by Fionán O’Sullivan for the homeside, Mike Foley’s goal ensured that Spa were ahead by a slender margin at the break. Ryan Carroll’s goal early in the second half and some fine play by Mike O’Donoghue had Spa in the driving seat and they held on for the semi final place despite Paul O’Connor’s goal for the hosts (2-12 to 2-9).

There was a big local derby in Castleisland where Desmonds secured their semi final place at the expense of their near neighbours Currow. Two first half goals from Thomas Hickey had the homeside seven points to the good at the break. A battling Currow side reduced that margin to two points entering the home straight but three Thomas Hickey points earned a semi final place and local bragging rights for Desmonds (2-11 to 0-12).

The semi final draw made on Saturday sees John Mitchels play Spa and Desmonds play St Marys.

Junior Championship

Beaufort and Firies qualified for the semi finals of the Junior Championship following contrasting victories over the weekend. Goals by Dan O’Connor and Padraig de Brún were the decisive scores in Farrranfore as Firies got the better of neighbours Listry by three points (2-7 to 0-10) in their quarter final replay and in Beaufort, the homeside had it all their own way against Duagh who finished the game with thirteen men following double yellow cards. Liam Carey and Kevin O’Brien had the Beaufort goals in a 2-12 to 0-4 victory.

The semi final draw pitted Firies against Templenoe and Beaufort got the short straw when drawing Glenbeigh-Glencar who are many peoples favourites for the title.

Novice Championship

Novice Championship action last weekend was confined to the boardroom where the semi final draw sees St Senans play Asdee and Ballydonoghue play Lispole.
