Kerry Minor Hurlers make winning start to Leinster MHL 2015-03-09 21:23:00

Kerry 4-18 Wicklow 0-7

Kerry began their Leinster Minor League campaign with a comprehensive  win over Wicklow  at a very warm and sunny Bray Emmets GAA grounds on Saturday evening.  Kerry went into an early lead with points from young Shane Conway, making his first debut at minor level, and the young Lixnaw man was a real thorn in the Wicklow back-line scoring 4 points in the first qtr along with some great work when setting up last year’s captain Fionán MacKessy for the first of his three goals of the half in the 9th minute. Kerry really took over with points from Johnny Buckley (2)  and then  MacKessy adding two more goals on the 12th and 18th minutes along with two points.

Kerry’s defence was very solid with great performances by captain David Silles in goals along with some great defending by Dylan Bourke, Mike Leen, Billy Lyons, Jason Diggins and newcomers Tommy O’Connor (Ballyduff),  Thomas Quinlan (Crotta), Tomas O’Connor (Crotta),  Colin Browne  (Crotta) and  Ger Stackpoole (Lixnaw). Kerry finished the half very strong and at half time the score stood at:  Kerry 3-8 Wicklow 2pts.

The second half saw Kerry playing into a very strong wind but this did not stop this young squad from the Kingdom pushing forward with Crotta O’ Neills man Colin Browne firing over a point on the 3rd minute and in the 7th minute the big six ft four Crotta man again struck for goal number four followed by points from Buckley (4, 2 frees) and MacKessy (3). At this stage the management emptied the bench and more points followed from subs Adam Guerin (Causeway) and Jordan Conway (Crotta).   Fifteen subs finished the second half in style. (In this competition teams can use unlimited substitutions).

Next game is on March 14th against Meath;  venue T.B.C
