SENIOR COUNTY FOOTBALL LEAGUE Div 4 Round 1 2014-03-23 11:27:00

Ballylongford 1-8 Na Gaeil 3-18

Ballylongford lost out to Na Gaeil by a similar margin as their previous encounter, this time in the first round of the Credit Union County League played at O Rahilly Park Ballylongford in ideal conditions. While Ballylongford were doing quite well at midfield where Ray O’Sullivan and Kenneth Sheehy fielded some great, it was Na Gaeil who were sharper to any breaking ball and were first to score, with a well taken point from Mike Griffin. Ballylongford had to wait until the 12th minute for their opening score from wing forward Stephen Foley. Na Gaeil were now getting on top and adding on the points, and were threatening for a goal for some time, which arrived just before half time from full forward Dan O’Connor, to leave them 1-9 to 0-2 ahead at half time.

Na Gaeil continued where they left off, with a point in the opening minute, but any hopes of a Ballylongford comeback were dashed in the 5th minute, when Darragh Carmody struck for their second goal, despite a brave effort from Shane Sullivan in the Ballylongford goal, the ball inched over the line. David Culhane, now operating at mid field, responded straight away with a fine goal after linking up with Kieran Mulvihill. Darragh Carmody wasn't finished his goal scoring and added another in the 16th minute. David Culhane kicked a further three points for Ballylongford. Jack Barry, who had a fine game throughout, finished the scoring for Na Gaeil. Final Score Ballylongford 1-8 Na Gaeil 3-18. Referee Jim O’ Connor Scartaglen.

Francis Courtney had a point after good work by Padraig O'Sullivan. On 16 mins, Hallissey had his second goal, when he intercepted a short kick-out and finished to the net. Kevin O'Connor in the Ballyduff goals redeemed himself shortly afterwards, with a fine save off a Courtney shot. Courtney finished to the net shortly after the earlier miss and Fergal Hallissey had a point from play, after a quick free from Ronan Murphy,to leave the score 3-10 to 1-8. Wing back Kevin Bowler joined the attack and finished a move to the Beaufort net, to cut the lead to 8 points. They also had a point from P.J.
