Acorn Life Under 21 Championship Final 2014-08-13 11:05:00

St Kierans and Kenmare District meet in the Acorn Life Under 21 Championship Final in Fitzgerald Stadium on this Wednesday evening with a 7pm throw-in.

Both sides have played three games en route to the final and both have been equally impressive. St Kierans, last year's beaten finalists, started their campaign with a 2-11 to 2-6 victory over Dr Crokes and followed this with a 15 points to 9 victory over Feale Rangers. In the semi final, St Kierans accounted for Shannon Rangers by 5-17 to 3-5 and that emphatic win will probably earn Mike Murphy's side the favourite's tag backboned as they are by half a dozen Desmonds players, including Kerry Junior player Thomas Hickey.

Kenmare, in contrast are playing with a very small hand and did not even have the full complement of six substitutes in their last outing but Pat Spillane's side defeated West Kerry by 1-10 to 0-12 and then Kilcummin/Rathmore by 3-12 to 2-14 before seeing off a highly fancied South Kerry outfit by 2-11 to 1-11 in the semi final. They are backboned by the Crowley brothers, Gavin and Brian and Cian Hallissey.

St Kierans no doubt will be striving to make up for last year's final defeat by Mid Kerry while Kenmare will be hoping to continue the progress made under Pat Spillane, Tom O'Connor and Co. It promises to be an intriguing final.
