Division 6A 13-a-side Final 2014-05-15 09:12:00

Dromid Pearses/ Waterville 4-10 Skellig Rangers/ Valentia 3-08
The future of football in South Kerry looks bright given the wealth of talent on display in this keenly contested Keanes Supervalu Killorglin Minor League Division 6A final played in Cahersiveen on Thursday evening.

The game opened with a fine point from play for Graham O'Sullivan for the winners and was replied to quickly with a score from the impressive Diarmuid Keating. Although Dylan O'Donoghue regained the lead with a point from play, Skellig Rangers/Valentia had the upper hand in the opening quarter with Diarmuid Keating beating the keeper for the first goal of the game after ten minutes. They followed up with two more scores from Andy Quigley however Dromid/Waterville dug deep and responded with three unanswered points in quick succession. Midfielder Paul Curtin and pacey Keelan Farley exchanged points and a point from the hard-working Graham O'Sullivan brought the sides level. The tide was now turning in favour of Dromid/Waterville and when a pinpoint pass from Adam O'Dwyer gave Graham O'Sulllivan the opportunity to goal he did not waste it. The half time score was 1-07 to 1-4 for the winners.

Spectators were treated to a flurry of goals in the second half, with the first scored by Waterville/Dromid’s Sam O'Dwyer from the throw-in and then Skellig/Valentia’s Paul Curtin had a goal for his side soon after. A further point from Aaron O'Shea brought the game to a two point margin but Dromid/Waterville pulled away once more with a goal from Adam O'Dwyer following a great run by Keelan Farley.

Cillian Clifford for the winners and Andy Quigley swapped scores before tenacious corner forward Kevin Sheehan had the ball in the Skellig/Valentia net once more. The impressive Andy Quigley scored another point from play before stepping up to the penalty spot when Diarmuid Keating was brought down in the box. A change in goalkeeper could not prevent him from scoring but it did make way for an unusual occurrence- Dromid/ Waterville's former goalkeeper, Jamie O’Sullivan venturing up-field to score the last point of the game.

After the game, county committee Assistant Secretary, Maureen O’Shea presented winning captain Sam O’Dwyer with the winners shield and Patrick Brennan from CCC presented Graham O’Sullivan with the Keanes Supervalu Killorglin Man of the Match trophy.

Credit is due to referee Brendan Twiss (Milltown) and his team for a clean, free-flowing game.
