Cáirde Chiarraí launch major fundraising campaign to assist in the development of Centre of Excellence for the County

Cáirde Chiarraí was formed five years ago to assist Kerry County Committee raise funds for the development of Gaelic Games facilities in the County. Following a very successful five years, Cáirde Chiarraí now launch their new fundraising programme with all funds raised ring fenced for the development of a Centre of Excellence at the Institute of Technology Tralee and the Kerry G A A Grounds Development at Currans. Maintaining the high standards of Kerry Football and Hurling will be greatly enhanced when these facilities are completed.

The plans for the Centre of Excellence at I.T. Tralee were officially launched last October by Kerry County Board Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan and will incorporate the development of one Full Sized Floodlit Pitch, Two Dressing Rooms, Officers and Players Lounge. The IT Tralee has an international reputation in the arena of sports development. A key aspect of the GAA project which will be based at the IT Tralee North Campus will be access to the Health and Leisure Department and the facilities and expertise associated with same. The IT Tralee project will cost circa €15million to develop and the Institute is currently fundraising from philanthropic sources in Ireland and internationally.

Kerry County Committee is determined to ensure our facilities reflect our status within the Association and our recent developments have been recognised as strategic, well managed and completed within budget. The next phase of this development is the joint strategy with I.T. Tralee which will allow our Coaching and Games Personnel relocate there and further cement our tie-in with the College.

Substantial G A A Grant aid has already been sanctioned by Croke Park and Munster G A A. Kerry Group, our Inter County Team Sponsors have committed €1million to the projects and funds raised to date by Cáirde Chiarraí are very encouraging. Speaking at the launch Cáirde Chiarraí Chairman Michael McCarthy said “This involves a lot of fundraising both at home and overseas and Cáirde Chiarraí has a very important role to play in that fundraising.
