Castleisland Mart Club Champ Q/F: Dr Crokes 0-12 Legion 0-5 2016-04-30 23:01:00

Castleisland Mart Senior Club Championship Semi Final
Dr Crokes 0-12 Legion 0-5

Dr Crokes advanced to their 5th Club Championship final in a row when getting the better of town rivals Legion at a well appointed Rathmore this evening. This was a tough uncompromising game all through but the black and amber’s greater scoring ability was the main difference between the sides. Legion matched their opponents in almost other facets through out the game and were especially tight in defence but the lack of penetration up front was to cost them dearly.

Colm Cooper and Daithí casey had early points for wind assisted Dr Crokes and Cooper again after 13 minutes made it 3 points to no score, however, by that time Dr Crokes had also kicked 5 wides. Legion’s first shot at goaldid not come until the 13th minute and David O’Sullivan got them off the mark finally in the 19th minute. Colm Cooper and Jonathan Lyne, with a good point from the wing exchanged scores but Crokes finished the half with Kieran O’Leary and Tony Brosnan pointing either side of a Jamie O’Sullivan free for Legion. At the break it was 6 points to 3 but Legion had improved as the game wore on frustrating Crokes with some first time tackling.

When Jamie O’Sullivan and David O’Sullivan (free) narrowed the gap to a single score within two minutes of the restart, we all thought that we were in for a humdinger of a second half but Legion flattered only to deceive on the scoring front and it was a full 25 minutes before they raised their next white flag. Crokes introduced Ambrose O’Donovan and Jordan Kiely and Kiely especially made a difference. Tony Brosnan and Kiely had Crokes 8 to 5 ahead by the 39th minute and two minutes later two ex Kilcummin players were in the limelight when Jamie O’Sullivan brought the best out of Shane Murphy in the Dr Crokes goal to deny the Legion an equalising score. Recovering from this letoff Colm Cooper and Jordan Kiely added to the Crokes tally to put them 10 to 5 ahead at the three quarter stage. Kieran O’Leary added to their tally before Conor Keane pointed two late frees for Legion but Colm Cooper had the last say when he curled a beautiful free from the wing over the bar to close the scoring.

Dr Crokes: Colm Cooper 0-5 (3fr), Tony Brosnan, Kieran O’Leary and Jordan Kiely 0-2 each, Daithí Casey 0-1 (Fr), Legion: Conor Keane (2fr), David O’Sullivan (1fr) and Jamie O’Sullivan (1fr) 0-2 each, Jonathan Lyne 0-1.
