Leinster Minor Hurling League Round 1
Kerry 1-15 Dublin 2-15
Kerry travelled to the DCU grounds in Dublin to take on the home county in their opening game of the Leinster minor hurling league this afternoon and went down to a late Dublin goal having led for three quarters of the game. Fielding nine Under 17s, which should stand to them in the upcoming Celtic Challenge U17 competition, Kerry led by 8 points to 6 at the break with 7 of those scores coming from Shane Conway frees and the other coming from team captain Colin Sheehy.
Three pointed frees from Conway and further points from play by Colin Sheehy and Eric Leane brought Kerry’s total to 13 points but all the time Dublin were also keeping the scoreboard ticking over and the boys in blue led by two points when they struck for a goal with ten minutes to go. Tomas O’Connor and Shane Conway with his 11th point from frees, kept Kerry in touch but Dublin struck for a late goal and Eric Leen’s goal in the 32nd minute of the half came too late to close the gap.
On the day Kerry had fine performances from Liam Mullins, Thomas Quinlan, Niall O’Mahony, Eric Leen and Shane Conway and they now play Laois in Round 2 at a Laois venue on Saturday next.
Scorers: Kerry: Shane Conway 0-11 frees, Eric Leen 1-1, Colin Sheehy 0-2, Tomas O’Connor.
Subs used: Brandon Conway, Philip Maunsell and Darragh Goulding.
