Although the Kerins O’Rahillys players and the team management are naturally disappointed with the result they have gained valuable experience which no doubt will stand to them in the years ahead.

They have achieved their main ambition in winning the AIB County Senior Football Championship, their first title since 1957, and that in itself has made 2002 a landmark year for this great Tralee club.

-----------------------------

Kilmoyley’s retaining of the title was a feat they last achieved in 1970/71.

Kilmoyley also created history on a smaller note on Sunday by registering the highest number of points ever scored in a Co. Hurling final – with the previous high belonging to Causeway in ’98 (1-14) and Kilmoyley themselves in ’64 (4-14).

Kilmoyley’s total tally of 17 scores is second highest only to that victory in ’64 when they registered 18 scores (4-14) and equals their own score in ’62 when they defeated St. Brendans by 7-10 to 4-3.

Blackrock

.

Just like last year at Lerrig, the clash of Kerry Senior Hurling Champions, Kilmoyley and Cork County Champions, Blackrock, in the first round of the AIB Munster Club Championship at Páirc Ui Chaoimh, Kilmoyley came very close yet again to bringing off a shock result.

They were unfortunate to have a goal disallowed and a free awarded to them instead.  There was just two points separating the teams as the game went into its closing minutes.

Kilmoyley’s Shane Brick was named the AIB Man of the Match after scoring a magnificent personal tally of one goal and ten points.

Scorers:

Kilmoyley: S. Brick 1-10 (1-6 frees); C. Walsh, P. O'Sullivan 0-1 each.

Blackrock: B. O'Keeffe 1-2; B. Hennebry, A. Coughlan (frees) 0-4 each; D. Cashman 1-0; P. Tierney 0-2; L. Meaney 0-1.
