AIB CO. SF CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007... After the Round 2 games of the AIB County Senior Football Championship played last weekend, Shannon Rangers, Feale Rangers, Legion, and Kilcummin joined the ten victorious teams from Round 1 the previous weekend in the Round 3 draw, which took place on Sunday evening last. South Kerry as reigning champions, had a bye into the Round 3 draw. This Sunday's replay at 2.00 p.m. at Dingle's Páirc An Ághasaigh will determine whether Dingle or Milltown/Castlemaine will play the reigning three in a row champions, South Kerry in Round 3. Extra time will be played if necessary. Both teams played a thrilling game last Sunday afternoon with a late point for Milltown/Castlemaine ensuring that they lived to fight another day. The Round 3 games will be played over the weekend of June 10th and the Competitions Control Committee will decide the dates and venues. The three losing teams from the clubs section, Rathmore, John Mitchels and the either Dingle or Milltown/Castlemaine will have to playoff for retaining their senior championship status. One game will be drawn and the winners of this playoff retain their senior status while the losing team will play the club that got the bye. The winners of the second playoff retain senior status and the losing team will be relegated to the Intermediate Championship. CREDIT UNION COUNTY LEAGUE Round 5 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League will be played this weekend with games on Saturday at 7.30 p.m. and on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. Listry defeated Laune Rangers B in a Division 5 back game last Saturday to put them into joint second place with Moyvane and two points behind the leaders, Fossa on the league table. The Round 4 games, the very popular local derby round, played six weeks ago had plenty of local rivalry in evidence and many of the games were closely contest as you might expect. It has been a long gap for the clubs since that round but in the intervening period they were involved in club championship games and county championship action as well as the completion of the Divisional Board leagues. Kerins O'Rahillys held on to the top spot in Division 1 table after beating neighbours Austin Stacks in that round. An Ghaeltacht defeated Dingle at Páirc An Ághasaigh and Dr. Crokes in back game to climb to second place on the table, sharing that spot with Laune Rangers and just one point behind the leaders. A last minute goal for Dr. Crokes who were at home to Kilcummin gave both teams a share of the points to put Kilcummin into fourth place. Rathmore after a big win over Gneeveguilla are a point behind Kilcummin. Dingle and Listowel Emmets prop up the table and the remaining teams form a big group in mid table. The results of the weekend's games should flex the table positions even further with Kerins O'Rahillys travelling to play Dr. Crokes and Laune Rangers hosting Ardfert. An Ghaeltacht face a tough assignment as they travel to play Gneeveguilla. Austin Stacks are at home Kilcummin in a vital game for both clubs. Listowel Emmets and Rathmore are free this weekend to make way for their opponents, Milltown/Castlemaine and Dingle to replay their drawn County Championship game at Dingle on Sunday at 2.00 p.m. In Division 2 St. Michael's/Foilmore's had their fourth successive victory against second placed Spa in the last round to lead the race for promotion. There was intense rivalry evident at Castleisland last time out when Desmonds lost to neighbours Currow, who are now in second place ahead of Spa, Sneem and Beale in joint third place. In this round we have the top of the table clash when St. Michael's.Foilmore are at home Currow and what a contest that should be. Spa travel to Desmonds in this round. Sneem are at home to Beale, in another big top of the table game. St. Mary's, John Mitchels and Dromid Pearses are the teams badly in need of points at this stage of the league to avoid the prospect of relegation. In Division 3 Tarbert are the only team on full points from the four opening rounds and they had a good home win in Round 4 against Beaufort. Kenmare defeated their neighbours, Tousist to hold the second place on the table and Glenflesk are in third place ahead of Na Gaeil who have lost some ground after making a great start to the league. Na Gaeil set the pace with their victories in the opening two rounds but dropped further points as they lost to Ballymacelligott in the last round. Renard and Beaufort need points from this round to avoid the prospect of relegation. In Division 4 where six teams were on four points going into the last round has a less congested appearance with Duagh, who defeated Ballydonoghue in a back game and drew with Brosna now in pole position. Duagh travel to play St. Pat's in this round. Keel after their victory against Valentia share second place with St. Pat's, one point behind the leaders. Keel are at home to Glenbeigh/Glencar in this round. Glenbeigh/Glencar, Firies, Cromane, Scartaglin, Valentia and Ballyduff are all on four points after their games in Round 4. Brosna, Cordal and Ballydonoghue prop up the table. In Division 5 Fossa top the table with full points after their victory in a top of the table clash against neighbours, Listry. Moyvane are now in second place with six points after beating St. Senan's in a back game and despite losing to Ballylongford in the last round. Templenoe, Derrynane, Knocknagoshel, Ballylongford and Knocknaghoshel are all locked together on four points. MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUES Kerins O'Rahillys retained their title in the Division 1A final of The Keane's Super Valu County Minor Football League against Dr. Crokes at Fitzgerald Stadium last Sunday evening. Castlegregory defeated Rathmore in extra time in a thrilling Division 2B final at Listry also on Sunday and on Friday evening at Beaufort, Kenmare narrowly defeated St. Mary's in the Division 4B 13 a side final. Many teams have already qualified for the knockout stages of the other divisions of the league but rank order of the teams on some of the league tables is not decided until the results of back games are known. In Division 1B Dingle will play Legion and Ballymacelligott will play Dromid/Waterville in the semi-finals. In Division 2A, Listowel Emmets, An Ghaeltacht and Ardfert are through to the semi-finals and the result of a back game between Templenoe/Kilgarvan/Tuosist and John Mitchels should decide the remaining semi-final place. Currow play Firies and St. Pat's play Kilcummin in the Division 3A semi-finals. Division 3B has Knocknagoshel/Brosna through to the semi-finals but filling other three place is still wide open.
