A GOOD START TO THE CAMPAIGN... Last Saturday’s victory over Mayo in the first round game of the Christy Ring Cup was a very good start to the campaign by the Kerry Senior Hurling team. There is still plenty to be done by the players and the team management to ensure that this victory will be seen as just one short step along the road to success. There are three tough games ahead against Meath (away), Down (home) and Westmeath (away) before we can start to feel confident that we are in with real chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. Meath and Westmeath drew last Saturday in their first round game while Down had a bye. On this Saturday Mayo are at home to Meath and Westmeath host Down. Kerry have a bye in this Saturday’s Round 2 and our next game is away to Meath in Round 3 on Saturday June 30th. In Round 4 we at home to Down on Saturday July 7th and away to Westmeath on Saturday July14th. The top two teams from the group will qualify for the semi-finals against the two top teams from Group A on July 21st and the final will be played at Croke Park on Sunday August 5th as a curtain raiser to the All-Ireland semi-final. MUNSTER FOOTBALL FINAL TICKET SCHEME Members of the Kerry County Board 2003-2008 Ticket Purchase Scheme are reminded that this Friday June 22nd is the closing date for receipt of their applications for tickets under this scheme for the Bank Of Ireland Munster Football Final. With the limited seating accommodation at Fitzgerald Stadium members of the scheme are reminded that their entitlement is one ticket per unit. Tickets allocated to the scheme will be reallocated to the clubs and other units after the closing date. Applications should be addressed to Éamon Ó’Súilleabháin, Rúnaí, PO Box 125, The Pavilion, Austin Stack Park, Tralee. A stamped addressed envelope should accompany the application and the cost of the Stand Ticket (€35). Members of the scheme who wish to apply in person at the County Board Office should also have a written application with them when they call and have an addressed envelope marked “To be collected.” No applications will be taken over the phone. The registered address of the member should be used in all correspondence. Membership Certificates must be produced as proof of ownership when collecting the Ticket(s). The Munster Final is an ALL TICKET game. Admission to the Stand and the terraces will be by ticket only. Tickets will be allocated to the Ticket Scheme members, County Committee delegates, clubs and other units as soon as they become available. INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINALS In the two quarterfinals of the Castleisland Co-Op Mart Intermediate Football Championship played last Saturday Listowel Emmets and Annascaul are through to the semi-finals after victories over Beaufort and Duagh. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINALS St. Pat’s, Keel, Lispole and Castlegregory are through to the semi-finals of the Castleisland Co-Op Mart County Junior Football Championship after their quarterfinals victories over Moyvane, Tarbert, Cordal and Firies last weekend. NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTERFINALS In the two quarterfinals of the Novice Football Championship last Saturday evening, Ballydonoghue and Tuosist are through to the semi-finals after victories over Na Gaeil and St. Senan’s. NOVICE SHIELD Knocknagoshel defeated Asdee and Derrynane defeated Templenoe in their Novice Shield quarterfinals played last Saturday. On this Friday at 7.45 p.m. Kilgarvan are at home to Knocknagoshel in another quarterfinal. Extra time will be played if necessary. COUNTY LEAGUE The Round 6 game of the Credit Union County Senior Football League will be played this weekend with most games on Saturday at 8.00 p.m. a small number of games are on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. After the Round 5 games Kerins O’Rahillys held on to the top spot in Division 1 table despite their draw with Dr. Crokes. Laune Rangers missed out on their chance of sharing the top with Kerins O’Rahillys when they drew with Ardfert. Kilcummin are sharing second place with Laune Rangers after beating Austin Stacks. An Ghaeltacht have slipped to fourth place after losing to Gneeeveguilla, who are now just a point behind them on the table. In a back game Rathmore defeated Dr. Crokes played last Saturday and as result Rathmore have six points with a game in hand against Dingle. In this round An Ghaeltacht host Austin Stacks, Dr. Crokes travel to play Milltown/Castlemaine, Kilcummin are at home to Laune Rangers, Rathmore host Listowel Emmets and Ardfert are at home to Gneeveguilla. All these games are on Saturday at 8.00 p.m. and on Sunday at 2.30 p.m., the leaders, Kerins O’Rahillys are at home to Dingle. In Division 2 St. Michael’s/Foilmore’s had their fifth successive victory in as many rounds when they beat Currow. Sneem jumped into second place by beating Beale. Desmonds’ victory over Spa saw them climb the table to share third place with their neighbours, Currow. St. Mary’s, John Mitchels and Dromid Pearses are the teams badly in need of points at this stage of the league to avoid the prospect of relegation. It’s a big South Kerry derby game in this round for the leaders, St. Michael’s/Foilmore as they have an away game against Dromid Pearses. Currow are at home to Sneem in a big top of the table game, Desmonds travel to St. Mary’s and Spa are at home to Waterville. In Division 3 Tarbert are the only team on full points from the five opening rounds after they had a good home win against Legion. Kenmare defeated Na Gaeil to hold the second place on the table and Glenflesk after their win against Beaufort are in third place ahead of Na Gaeil. Skellig Rangers and Ballymacelligott made progress up the table with their respective wins against Tuosist and Castlegregory. Some teams at the bottom end of the table badly need to pick up points as the leading teams have opened a wide gap at the top of the table. In this round Tarbert are away to Na Gaeil, Kenmare travel to Skellig Rangers and Glenflesk are away to Lispole. In Division 4 Duagh lost their pole position on the table after they lost St. Pat’s. Keel defeated Glenbeigh/Glencar to share the top spot with St. Pat’s as Duagh slipped to third place. Cromane, Valentia, Ballydonoghue and Ballyduff all made up for some lost ground earning valuable league points while Brosna and Cordal prop up the table. In this round St. Pat’s travel to Scartaglin and Keel are away to Ballyduff while Duagh are at home to Cromane and this game is on Thursday at 8.00 p.m. In Division 5 Fossa top the table with full points after their victory in a top of the table clash against Ballylongford. Listry have gone into second place after their one-point victory against Moyvane,who are now in third place with six points sharing Templenoe and Knocknagoshel. In a back game Knocknagoshel defeated Kilgravan. This win has put them in joint second place with Listry and two points behind the leaders, Fossa. The game between the leaders Fossa and second placed Knocknagoshel is off but Listry have a home game against Churchill on Saturday. JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUES The Round 7 games of the Credit Union County Junior Football Leagues in Divisions 1 and 2 will played at 8.00 p.m. on this Friday June 22nd also a number of back games in the other divisions have been arranged for this Friday night as well as the quarterfinals of Division 5 which have a 7.45 p.m. start to allow for extra time to be played if necessary. The home club is responsible for phoning in result immediately after the game. CO. HURLING LEAGUES The Round 1games in Division 3 will be played on this Wednesday June 20th with games in Division 3A and 3B all commencing at 8.00 p.m. MINOR CO. FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP On Monday June 25th Kilcummin play Kenmare in the preliminary round of of the Keane’s Super Valu County Minor Football Championship at 745. p.m. Extra time will be played if necessary. The winners will play Legion on Tuesday July 3rd. Some Round 1 games will be played on July 3rd with the remainder on July 10th. MINOR CO. HURLING LEAGUE FINAL Kilmoyley play Crotta O’Neills in the Division 1 Final of the County Minor Hurling League on this Sunday at 12.00 p.m. at Ballyheigue. Extra time will be played if necessary. VHI CÚL CAMPS VHI GAA Cúl Camps are open to primary school children between the ages of 7 and 13. Cost: €55 per person, €45 for second member of same family, €30 for additional members. The fee for person wishing to take part in two camps is €85, €70 for second member of same family and €50 for additional members of same family.
