After this Sean O’Sullivan and Donncha Walsh will be involved with the Kerry team preparations for the All-Ireland Quarterfinal. NOVICE SHIELD Fossa easily defeated Kilgarvan in the quarterfinal of the Novice Shield last Saturday to set up a semi-final meeting with Clounmacon. Knocknagoshel play Derrynane at Beaufort on this Saturday at 7.30 p.m. in the first of the semi-finals. Extra time will be played if necessary. Because of Fossa’s commitments to the East Kerry team in the County Championship no date has been fixed for this semi-final. CHRISTY RING CUP Westmeath came from behind to defeat the Kerry Senior Hurling team last Saturday at Cusack Park, Mullingar in the winner take all game in the last round of the league section of the Christy Ring Cup. Westmeath had to dig deep to see off Kerry’s challenge as the team made the Midlanders work all the way for their victory and more importantly a place in the semi final. Kerry led for the majority of the match, but an impressive final quarter saw the home side edge in front to win by three points. Meath and Westmeath have qualified for the semi-finals of the competition from our group. Kildare and Carlow are the semi-final qualifiers from the other group. There is no consolation in defeat. It could have been a great boost for hurling in the county if we qualified for the knockout stages of the competition. We came very close this year to reach the semi-finals and hopefully next year with the experience gained the Kerry Senior Hurling Team can make it to the knockout stages and a place in the final. Points are at a premium at this stage in all the divisions of the league for the teams at the top and bottom ends of the tables.
