TRALEE CBS - ALL-IRELAND FINAL... Best of luck to Tralee CBS in the final of the Hogan Cup, the All-Ireland Colleges Senior Football Championship at Croke Park at 2.15 p.m. on this Sunday April 22nd. After their great win in the semi-final against St. Patrick’s College, Navan it would be a great reward for the players and for their trainers, John O’Keeffe and Eamon Walsh to have the honour of bringing the Hogan Cup to the school for the very first time. St. Brendan’s College, Killarney and Intermediate School, Killorglin are the previous Kerry winners but the title has eluded the Tralee school in the past and also Coláiste Na Sceilge. Tralee’s opponents are Omagh CBS who defeated St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam in their semi-final. The colleges’ finals in football and hurling are the curtain raisers to the Donegal v Mayo National Football League Final. MUNSTER MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Kerry defeated Tipperary in the Quarterfinal of the ESB Munster Minor Football Championship played at The Gaelic Grounds, Limerick last Wednesday In the other quarterfinals Clare and Limerick drew and in last Saturday’s replay Limerick were victorious and in doing so set up a semi-final meeting with Kerry on Wednesday May 9th. It will be a home venue for Limerick in the semi-final. Cork defeated Waterford in the other quarterfinal. The fourth semi-final place will be decided with the winners of the Tipperary v Clare playoff meeting Waterford in the second playoff. Cork will play the winners of this second playoff in the other semi-final also down for decision on May 9th. CREDIT UNION COUNTY LEAGUE RD. 4 The Round 4 games, which is the very popular local derby round of the Credit Union County Senior Football League, were played last weekend and there was plenty of local rivalry in evidence and many of the games were closely contested. Kerins O’Rahillys stay on top of the Division 1 table after beating neighbours Austin Stacks. An Ghaeltacht defeated Dingle at Páirc An Ághasaigh, a last minute goal for Dr. Crokes who were at home to Kilcummin gave both teams a share of the points and Rathmore had a big win over Gneeveguilla. There was great rivalry at Killorglin when Laune Rangers defeated Milltown/Castlemaine to stay second in the table. Ardfert travelled to play Listowel Emmets and they had their first win in the Division. In Division 2 St. Michael’s/Foilmore’s had their fourth successive victory against second placed Spa to lead the race for promotion. There was intense rivalry evident at Castleisland when Desmonds lost to neighbours Currow, who are now in second place ahead of Spa and Sneem in third place. In some mouth watering South Kerry clashes, Waterville lost at home to Dromid Pearses and Sneem defeated St. Mary’s and in North Kerry, Finuge drew at home with Beale. In Division 3 Tarbert are the only team on full points from the four opening rounds and they had a good home win against Beaufort. In a South Kerry derby, Renard drew at home with Skellig Rangers. In East Kerry, Glenflesk defeated Legion and in Kenmare, Tousist lost to their near neighbours. Na Gaeil, who set the pace with their victories in the opening two rounds have dropped further points as they lost to Ballymacelligott in this round. Castlegregory won their home game against Lispole. In Division 4 where six teams were on four points going into the round has a less congested appearance with Duagh, who defeated Ballydonoghue in a back game and drew with Brosna now in pole position. Keel after their victory against Valentia are now in second place, one point behind the leaders. Glenbeigh/Glencar and Firies, Cromane, Scartaglin, Valentia, Ballyduff and St. Pat’s are all on four points after their games in this round. The Competitions Control Committee has arranged dates for back matches and two games are being played this weekend. On this Saturday Beale host Waterville at 7.00 p.m. in Division 2 and also on Saturday at 7.00 p.m.St. Pat’s host Ballyduff in Division 4. CLUB FIXTURES Round 5 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League will be played on the weekend of May 27th and in between there are two weekends April 22nd and May 6th for District Board competitions. The Castleisland Co-Op Mart County Intermediate, Junior and Novice Club Championships are on the weekend of April 29th and the Round 1 and losers round games of the AIB County Senior Football Championship are on the weekends of May 13th and May 20th. COUNTY MINOR LEAGUES The Round 5 games Keane’s Super Valu County Minor Football Leagues will be played on this Friday April 20th with all games starting at 7.00 p.m. In the minor hurling league the Round 4 games in Division 1 and the Round 2 games in the 13 a side Division 2 League will be played on this Saturday with all games starting at 6.00 p.m. with the exception of Lixnaw v Ballyduff at 5.00 p.m. The home club is responsible for phoning in the result to the County PRO immediately after the game finishes. COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE After the Round 3 games in Division 1 of the Credit Union County Senior Hurling League played last Saturday there were victories for Ballyheigue, Kilmoyley, Abbeydorney and St. Brendan’s. Abbeydorney are unbeaten and top the table, Crotta O’Neills, Kilmoyley and Ballyheigue share the second place with four points each. DIVISION 2 CO. HURLING LEAGUE The first round in Division 2 of the Credit Union County Senior Hurling League will be played on Wednesday April 25th with all games having a 7.30 p.m. start. The home club is responsible for phoning in the result immediately after the game finishes. UNDER 16 HURLING The Kerry Under 16 Hurling Team were defeated by Limerick City in the Final of the Munster Under 16 Interdivisional Championship at Bruff last Saturday. SYMPATHY We extend our sincere sympathy to the family of the late Tom Golden, Castleisland. Tom gave great service as a referee and umpire.
