THE KINGDOM AND THE DUBS MEET ON THE 26TH...

Dublin are our opponents in the Bank Of Ireland Football Championship Semi-final on Sunday August 26th following our quarterfinal victory over Monaghan in last Sunday’s quarterfinal. As expected Monaghan gave us a very stern test and our experience told in the end when we salvaged a one point win late in the game. Dublin defeated Derry in Saturday’s quarterfinal to set up the semi-final clash against Kerry that will capture a great deal of attention in the days ahead.

This semi-final clash will generate much pre match banter over the next two weeks as the great rivals, the Kingdom and the Dubs prepare to meet each other at Croke Park.

In the build-up to the semi-final the players and supporters cannot be diverted from the ultimate prize by some of the negative analysis of last Sunday’s performance against Monaghan. Moreover, the focus of attention must be directed to the All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin and winning a place in the All-Ireland Final. With their feet firmly on the ground for the next two weeks the players and management will be preparing for that task.

TICKET SCHEME

Members of the Kerry County Board 2003-2008 Ticket Purchase Scheme are reminded that this Thursday August 16th is the closing date for receipt of their application for tickets under this scheme for the Bank Of Ireland Semi-final at Croke Park on Sunday August 26th.

Members of the scheme who wish to apply in person at the County Board Office should also have a written application with them when they call and have an addressed envelope marked “To be collected.” The registered address of the member should be used in all correspondence. Alternatively, applicants who request that the ticket(s) be held at the office may collect at the Co. Board Office, Austin Stack Park, Tralee during office hours (to be confirmed). Membership Certificates must be produced as proof of ownership when collecting the Ticket(s).

ALL-IRELAND MINOR SEMI-FINAL

Kerry play Galway on this Sunday at 1.45 p.m. at Croke Park in the ESB All-Ireland Minor Football Semi-final. After their great win against Tyrone in the quarterfinal two week’s ago let’s hope that the confidence they showed in that game will continue on Sunday as they bid for a place in the All-Ireland Final. We wish the players and management the very best of luck.

It’s unfortunate that our minor and senior teams are not playing on the same day in their All-Ireland Semi-finals. The reason is that in the All-Ireland Semi-finals, the Ulster Champions or the team that beat them in their All-Ireland Quarterfinal game were scheduled to play the Connacht Champions or the team that beat them in the quarterfinal game on this Sunday August 19th. In the senior championship we used “the front door” but in the minor championship we came in through “the back door” and beat the Ulster Champions. That gave us a minor semi-final on this Sunday rather than being on with the seniors on the following Sunday.

Tickets for the game are available on request during office hours at The Pavilion, Austin Stack Park, Tralee until 2.00 p.m. this Thursday August 16th.

SUPPORT OUR TEAMS

The Kerry senior players and management are very thankful for the support they got from the people of Kerry last Sunday. Also the Kerry minor players and management are very grateful to the supporters who travelled to Tullamore for their quarterfinal two weeks ago and they would appreciate if the supporters travel to Croke Park on this Sunday to urge them on.

Let’s see more flags, banners and bunting throughout the county this week, especially in the areas where our players live and work. Getting behind our teams has a positive effect on the players. They need to see and hear you to urge them on to victory.

SUPPORTERS CLUB BUS

The Kerry Supporters Club are organising a bus to Dublin for the All-Ireland Semi-final on Sunday August 26th. Seats must be booked and paid for at 8.30 p.m. on Monday next August 20th at The Listowel Arms Hotel and Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee.

St. Brendan’s defeated South Kerry in the preliminary round of the AIB County Senior Hurling Championship last Wednesday. They will play Ballyheigue in the quarterfinal.

COUNTY LEAGUE

Only a small number of games in Round 10 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League went ahead on Tuesday night. Some more games in that round go ahead on this Saturday evening. The remaining games will have to be rescheduled for another date as it has become very obvious that scheduling a round of the County League for a midweek date in the month of August was very ill advised and had little chance of being played in full.

COUNTY MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUES

The following finals in the Keane’s Super Valu County Minor Football Leagues remain to be played, Division 2A, Listowel Emmets v An Ghaeltacht, Division 3A, Firies v Kilcummin, Division 3B Brosna/Knocknagoshel v Churchill and Division 4A, Skellig Rangers v Gneeveguilla. No firm dates for these finals were available at the time of writing.

UNDER 21 COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

The semi-finals of the County Under 21 Football Championship, East Kerry v St. Kieran’s and South Kerry v Mid Kerry will be played on Thursday August 23rd. Venues were not arranged at the time writing.

In the Under 21 Club Championship Kilcummin, Listowel Emmets, Fossa/Listry, Dingle, Austin Stacks and Laune Rangers qualified for the quarterfinals after last week’s round of games. The Kilcummin v Milltown/Castlemaine and Fossa//Listry v Rathmore both went to extra time.

JUNIOR CUPS

The remaining Round 1 games in the Junior Cups, Molyneaux Cup, McElligott Cup, Barrett Cup and Cahill Cup must be played before Tuesday August 21st and where cloubs fail to agree on a date the games is officially down for Monday August 20th with extra time being played if necessary. The quarterfinals will be played Friday August 24th.

DIV 3 HURLING LEAGUE SEMI-FINALS
