JUBLIANT CELEBRATIONS...

Ballinclougher, Lixanw was the scene of jubilant celebrations on Sunday night last as The Bishop Moynihan Cup joined the Neilius Flynn Cup when Feale Rangers, captained by Eamonn Fitzmaurice brought the two AIB Senior County Championship Cups together in his home village. Winning the double of Senior Hurling and Senior Football County titles in the one year is a rare occurrence. Feale Rangers victory last Sunday over the three in row champions, South Kerry meant a great deal to the six Lixnaw players on the Feale Rangers panel, who now have the great honour of winning County Senior Hurling and Football medals in the same year.

In the curtain raiser to the Senior County Final South Kerry defeated Mid Kerry in the very exciting replay of the County Under 16 Interdivisional Football Championship Final. It was a great occasion for the young players from the two divisions to have their final staged before such a very big crowd.

In the Senior Final it was disappointing for the reigning champions of the last three years, South Kerry who were getting ever so close to the record five in row county senior titles achieved in the 1960’s by that great John Mitchels team of that era. South Kerry were very sporting and magnanimous in defeat and they pledged that they would be back stronger than ever in 2008 to regain the county title. Feale Rangers’ victory is big boost to all the North Kerry clubs, who have been waiting for so long to win the County Senior Championship.

South Kerry have graced the AIB County Senior Football Championship with many outstanding performances over the past few years and with a young and up coming team following on their success in the minor and under 21 county championship in recent times, they will be strong contenders again next year for the senior title. Feale Rangers, buoyed by last Sunday’s win, will be back with renewed vigour in 2008 to retain the title they have waited for so long to win.

MUNSTER CLUB SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Kilcummin, Kerry’s representatives in the AIB Munster Senior Club Football Championship, had a great victory over Lissycasey, the Clare County Champions at Cusack Park, Ennis, last Sunday. They have a home venue for their semi-final clash with the newly crowned Waterford County Champions, Ballinacourty on Sunday November 25th at 2.00 p.m. We wish the team, management and supporters the very best of luck in their preparations for the semi-final. Despite clashing with last Sunday’s County Football Final, Kilcummin had a very strong support at Cusack Park and they can look forward to much greater support in Killarney when they can expect plenty of extra support from the town of Killarney, East Kerry and indeed the entire county to urge them on to victory and a place in the Munster final.

In the other quarterfinal played last Sunday, the Cork County Champions, Nemo Rangers had a narrow enough victory against the Tipperary County Champions, Moyle Rovers at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Nemo Rangers play the Limerick County Champions, Ballylanders in the other semi-final.

MUNSTER INTERMEDIATE & JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

On this Sunday at 2.00 p.m. County Intermediate Football Champions, Annascaul will be away to the Tipperary County Intermediate Football Champions, Arravale Rovers, at Sean Treacy Park, Tipperary Town in the semi-final of the Munster Intermediate Club Championship. Extra time will be played if necessary. Arravale Rovers defeated the Clare Champions, Ballyvaughan in last Sunday’s quarterfinal. Cork Champions, Mallow defeated the Limerick Champions, Athea in the other quarterfinal. Mallow go straight through to the Munster Final because Waterford did not have their championship completed in time to participate in the other semi-final.

Keel have a long wait until Sunday December 2nd when they will be away to the winners of the quarterfinal between Canovee, the Cork Champions and Bruree, the Limerick representatives in the Munster Junior Club Football Championship. .

MUNSTER CLUB JUNIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Kerry Intermediate Club Hurling Champions, Kilgarvan, play the Limerick Junior Hurling Champions, Caherline in the quarterfinal of Munster Junior Hurling Championship at Kenmare on this Sunday November 18th at 2.00 p.m. Extra time will be played if necessary.

The Kerry Intermediate representatives are given special permission by Munster Council to compete in the provincial Junior Hurling Championship.

Caherline defeated Effin in the Limerick County Final and Kilgarvan overcame the challenge of the Lady’s Walk in the Kerry Intermediate Final. They are using Kenmare as their home venue because their own pitch is undergoing drainage development at present.

This year is Kilgarvan’s second successive year competing against a Limerick in the Munster quarterfinal. Last year, although they were defeated by Mungret, they had every reason to be proud of their performance. They battled hard from start to finish and were unlucky in so far as it took two magnificent saves by the Mungret goalkeeper to deprive them of two certain goals.

NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP

Cromane narrowly defeated Churchill by just a single point in the second semi-final of the Castleisland Co-Op Mart Novice Football Championship played last Saturday at Milltown. The final between Ballydonoghue and Cromane is fixed for Sunday December 2nd.

The final of the Novice Shield between Knocknagoshel and Fossa will be played on this Sunday November 18th at 2.00 p.m. at Austin Stack Park. Extra time will be played if necessary.

COUNTY LEAGUE

The three Round 11 games at the top end of the table in Division 1 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League played last Sunday resulted in wins for Kerins O’Rahillys against Milltown/Castlemaine and An Ghaeltacht, who defeated Ardfert at Gallarus. Gneeveguilla drew at home with Dr. Crokes n their other game played and both teams are now clear of the threat of relegation. Kerins O’Rahillys play An Ghaeltacht in the Division 1 Final on a date to be arranged.

The vital back game between Listowel Emmets and Austin Stacks will be played on Sunday November 18th, Rathmore are at home to Kilcummin in their Round 11 game also on this Sunday at 2.00 p.m. with all the remaining games in the last round scheduled for Sunday November 25th.

The remaining last round games in Division 2 will be played on this Sunday at 2.00 p.m. The already promoted and Division 2 winners, St. Michael’s/Foilmore are at home to Sneem. Waterville host Finuge, Dromid Pearses have home venue against Beale and John Mitchels host Currow. The game between Annascaul and Castleisland Desmonds will be played at a later date due to Annascaul’s Munster Intermediate Club Championship fixture on this Sunday.

In Division 3 the remaining back game between Renard and Tarbert will be played on this Sunday at 2.00 p.m. with the last round of games divided between Sunday November 25th and Sunday December 2nd.

The three remaining back games in Division 4, Brosna v Cromane, Duagh v Glenbeigh/Glencar and Keel v St.Pat’s will be played on this Sunday at 2.00 p.m.

Cromane also have a back game to play against Ballydonoghue and both teams are also involved in the Novice Final, so the two clubs have very busy schedules in the coming weeks. The last round games are scheduled, some for November 25th or December 2nd or 9th.

In Division 5 the crucial games in the promotion race between Moyvane and Churchill and Ballylongford and Knocknagoshel were not played last Sunday. They have been rescheduled for Sunday November 25th.
