CO. CHAMPIONSHIP CONTINUES...

Mid Kerry after winning their Round 3 replay against Laune Rangers in a thrilling game at Killorglin last Sunday are all set to play their quarterfinal meeting against Kerins O’Rahillys on this Sunday at Austin Stack Park, Tralee at 6.00 p.m.

This weekend three of the four quarterfinals in the AIB County Senior Football Championship will be played. Last year’s winners, South Kerry and runners up Dr. Crokes meet in their quarterfinal clash of the 2007 Championship on this Saturday at 7.30 p.m. at J.P. O’Sullivan Park, Killorglin. On Sunday evening commencing at 6.00 p.m. there is double bill at Austin Stack Park, Tralee with Kerins O’Rahillys v Mid Kerry as the first game on the bill. It will be followed at 7.30 p.m. with the meeting of An Ghaeltacht and Feale Rangers. The quarterfinal between East Kerry and Kilcummin will be played on Saturday July 21st at 7.30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney.

COUNTY MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The quarterfinals of the Keane’s Super Valu County Minor Football Championship are down for decision next Tuesday July 17th at 7.30 p.m. Extra time will be played if necessary. Kerins O’Rahillys defend their title at home to the Round 1 winners of Mid Kerry and Laune Rangers, Dr. Crokes are at home to Shannon Rangers, the winners of East Kerry and West Kerry are at home to the winners of South Kerry and St. Brendan’s and Kenmare or Austin Stacks are at home to St. Kieran’s. The home team is responsible for phoning in the result immediately after the game finishes.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

St. Michael’s/Foilmore defeated Castleisland Desmonds last Saturday in their quarterfinal of the Castleisland Co-Op Mart County Intermediate Football Championship. No date has been arranged for the remaining quarterfinal between Currow and Finuge due to the Lixnaw players on intercounty duty with the Kerry Senor Hurling team in the Christy Ring Cup. In the semi-finals St. Michael’s/Foilmore are drawn against Annascaul and Listowel Emmets will meet the winners of Currow and Finuge.

In the semi-final draw for the Junior Football Championship Lispole will play Castlegregory and St. Pat’s have drawn Keel. In the Novice Championship semi-finals Ballydonoghue have been drawn against Tuosist and the winners of the Cromane v Listry quarterfinal will play the winners of this Saturday’s quarterfinal between Scartaglin and Churchill.

NOVICE SHIELD

Clounmacon defeated Brosna in the quarterfinal of the Novice Shield last Saturday. They will meet the winners of Kilgarvan and Fossa in the semi-final. Knocknagoshel have drawn Derrynane in the other semi-final.

CHRISTY RING CUP

On this Saturday at 5.00 p.m. at Mullingar the Kerry Senior Hurling team play Westmeath in a winner take all game in the last round of the league section of the Christy Ring Cup. The winners along with Meath will qualify for the semi-finals of the competition. After last Saturday’s well deserved and emphatic victory against Down at Austin Stack Park, the team will have to repeat that spirited performance against Westmeath on Saturday to be in with a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals. This game is the curtain raiser to the Bank Of Ireland Football Round 2 Qualifier between Westmeath and Donegal.

ALL-IRELAND MINOR B & UNDER 21 B HURLING

Kerry were beaten by Meath in the quarterfinal of the All-Ireland Minor B Hurling Championship at Austin Stack Park, Tralee last Saturday.

Kerry were due to play Armagh in the semi-final of the All-Ireland Under 21 B Hurling Championship last Saturday but the fixture is now due to be rescheduled for another date.

COUNTY JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUES

The Credit Union County Junior Football Leagues are at the knockout stages in most divisions. On this Friday at 7.30 p.m., Gneeveguilla play Ardfert at Castleisland in the second semi-final in Division 2 with the winners meeting Austin Stacks in the final. In the Division 3 semi-finals Dromid Pearses play Spa at Cromane and Lispole play Legion at John Mitchels pitch. Extra time will be played if necessary.

In the Division 4 semi-finals Clounmacon will play Duagh and Ballylongford or St. Senan’s will meet Moyvane. The fixtures for the division 4 semi-finals were not available at the time of writing,

COUNTY LEAGUE

The Round 7 games of the Credit Union County Senior Football League were played last weekend. Ardfert defeated Rathmore a week earlier in their Division 1 game in this round. Some games in this round were postponed due to the County Championship replay between Laune Rangers and Mid Kerry and also the Intermediate Championhsip quarterfinal between St. Michael’s/Foilmore and Castleisland Desmonds and the Novice Shield game between Brosna and Clounmacon.

The county players were made available for this round and their contributions were influential with victories for An Ghaeltacht and Dingle in Division1 and Dromid Pearses in Division 2.

Despite them losing their games in this round Kerins O’Rahillys and Kilcummin still remain in first and second place respectively at the top of the Division 1 table. An Ghaeltacht, who defeated Kerins O’Rahillys, have gone into joint third place with Ardfert and Rathmore. The latter have a game in hand against Dingle. Laune Rangers and Milltown Castlemaine also with a game in hand are in joint fourth place. Milltown/Castlemaine defeated Kilcummin on Sunday in their Round 7 game. The game between Listowel Emmets and Gneeveguilla was postponed.

In Division 2 St. Michael’s/Foilmore despite not playing their game in this round are still in pole position, one point ahead of Annascaul who had an important win against Finuge on Sunday. Finuge have dropped to third place on the table as a result of this defeat. Currow, who defeated bottom of the table St. Mary’s, share third place on the table with Finuge and Castleisland Desmonds. Dromid Pearses have eased their relegation worries with a good home win against Spa. John Mitchels lost to Beale to remain in serious danger of relegation at this stage of the league.

In Division 3 Tarbert are the only team on full points from the seven rounds after they had a good away win against Ballymacelligott. Kenmare have dropped to third place after Renard defeated them on Sunday. Glenflesk have now gone into second place after recording an important victory against Castlegregory. Lisople drew with Legion and Skellig Rangers have gone up the table after a victory against Tuosist. The leading teams have opened a wide gap at the top of the table while at the bottom end of the table Beaufort, Lispole and Castlegrogory are the teams in danger at this stage.

No games were played in Division 4

In Division 5 Fossa still top the table even though they were beaten by Churchill. Knocknagoshel defeated Listry to jump into joint leadership with Fossa. Churchill, Listry, Templenoe, St. Senan’s and Moyvane are all locked together on 8 points in a very tightly contested division.

Some of the Round 8 games and back games are scheduled for the next two weekends.

CO. HURLING LEAGUES

The Round 4 games in Division 3 will be played on this Wednesday July 11th with games in Division 3A and 3B all commencing at 8.00 p.m.

COUNTY MINOR FOOTBALL LEAGUES

The divisions that were not completed before the exams of the Keane’s Super Valu County Minor Football Leagues will be concluded over the next few weeks. Semi-finals and back games are scheduled for Thursday July 18th.

COUNTY UNDER 21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

In the draw made for the quarterfinals of the County Under 21 Football Championship St. Kieran’s got a home draw against the winners of the Kilcummin/Rathmore v Shannon Rangers replay. West Kerry will have home venue against South Kerry and these two quarterfinals will be played on Tuesday July 24th. St. Brendan’s play East Kerry and Dingle will host Mid Kerry on Tuesday August 2nd.

In the Under 21 Club Championship the next round of games will be played on August 2nd and August 9th. The Shield competition will be played on the same dates.

VHI GAA CÚL CAMPS

From Monday July 16th to Friday July 20th next week the 2007 VHI GAA Cúl Camps continue with the football camps at Dingle, Rathmore, Cahersiveen, Causeway and Knocknagoshel while the hurling/camogie venues are Abbeydorney and Killorglin. The camps are from 10.00 a.m. in the morning up until 2.30 p.m. in the afternoon. If you have not registered yet but would like to still join the camps then registration will be taken the morning of the camps.

The camps will include a wide range of football, hurling and camogie activities, providing children with learning experiences in an environment of fun and enjoyment. All ranges of football and camogie skills will be taught. Children will take part in mini leagues, fun games and a variety of skill-based activities.
