AN OCCASION THAT WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR MANY A LONG DAY... We wish all the players and officials from Ardfert and Duagh the very best of luck in their respective All-Ireland Club Intermediate and Junior Football Finals on this Saturday at Croke Park and hope that they will bring the All-Ireland titles back to the Kingdom. Ardfert play the Ulster Champions, Eoghan Ruadh from near Coleraine in Derry and Duagh also face Ulster opposition when they face Greencastle from Co. Tyrone, The throw in for the Junior Final between Duagh and Greencastle is 6.00 p.m. and the Intermediate Final between Ardfert and Eoghan Ruadh is at 8.00 p.m. Extra time will be played if necessary. The Ardfert and Duagh parishes and communities have been given a great boost by the success of their football teams and everybody in Kerry is delighted with the high profile and national exposure they are getting as a result. Playing the All-Ireland Final in Croke Park is a tremendous experience for the teams, officials and supporters and they carry the best wishes of everybody in Kerry for the biggest day in the history of their clubs. Although Ardfert will be playing in Croke Park for the second time in a year it does not diminish in any way the privilege of representing their county in another All-Ireland Final. What is truly remarkable about this Ardfert team is that in the space of twelve months they have succeeded in stepping up a grade to Intermediate level and are within an hour’s football away from winning the Intermediate and Junior All-Ireland titles in successive years. For Duagh it is a dream come true. It is going to be the proudest moment in the lives of the players as they run out on to Croke Park on Saturday. The parish and community have never before witnessed such an outpouring of emotion and goodwill and they are justifiably proud of what their team has achieved to date. It is going to be an unforgettable day and one that will be remembered by the people for many a long day. The two villages has been decorated with the team colours of the clubs, Black and White in Ardfert and Maroon and Gold in Duagh as both communities spend these last few days looking forward to their big day out at Croke Park on Saturday. Tickets are currently on sale through the GAA Website, GAA Ticket Office (01-8658657), Ticketmaster outlets nationwide and are priced at €15 for adults, €5 for juveniles and €7 for Students and Senior Citizens (students and senior citizens must enter by stiles G8-10 only). The Hogan Stand only will be open for the finals. MUNSTER UNDER 21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Kerry play Clare in the quarterfinal of the Cadbury Munster Under 21 Football Championship at Kilmihil, Co. Clare on this Saturday at 2.30 p.m. The team has been in training for the past few months under team manager, John O’Dwyer and selectors Eddie O’Sullivan, Dr. Crokes and Patie O’Mahony, Beale. The injuries to Darren O’Sullivan and Killian Young are a big setback for the team who will also have to line out without Duagh’s Anthony Maher. Nevertheless the players have to put those disappointments aside on Saturday and there is no doubt that the selected players will do their utmost to ensure that Kerry qualify for a semi-final meeting with Tipperary a week later. KERRY V LIMERICK After their comprehensive win against Fermanagh in Round 3 of the Allianz National Football League two weeks ago our Senior Footballers play Limerick in their Round 4 game at Austin Stack Park on this Sunday at 2.30 p.m. Please not the change of date and our sincere thanks to Limerick for facilitating that change. Mickey Ned O’Sullivan is manager of the Limerick team and he will more than likely view this game as a barometer for the team’s progress. The Limerick players will be well motivated for this game and will endeavour to exploit the current injury situation in the Kerry panel that has a number of key players out through injury. Due to club commitments the Dr. Crokes players are unlikely to play any part in this game as they prepare for the All-Ireland Club Final on St. Patrick’s Day. The players on the panel will work hard to justify their selection on the team for this Sunday’s game and they will be strongly motivated to put in a performance that can give Kerry those valuable league points. It is important to win our home games in this highly competitive division. The league will have passed the half way stage after this weekend’s games and Kerry’s remaining games are away to Donegal in Round 5, at home to Tyrone in Round 6 and away to Dublin in the last round. There has been a great rivalry between Kerry and Limerick in recent years in both the league and championship and it will be rekindled again on Sunday. We need the Kerry supporters out in big numbers because the team relies on good home crowd support to get behind the players. ADMISSION PRICES The admission prices for the league games are decided by Central Council and for Division 1 entry to the stand is €15 and this includes the seated area in front of the Pavilion, admission to the terrace is €13. The admission for students and senior citizens is €5 on production of a current and valid identification. Juveniles under the age of sixteen are admitted free. MATCH PROGRAMME The match programme for Sunday’s game is produced and compiled by the Kerry Handball Committee and will cost €2. All the proceeds from the programme will go towards the costs of promoting handball, especially at under age level in the county. The Kerry Handball Committee has made great strides in recent years in coaching and organising competitions for all age groups, male and female. As a direct result of all the voluntary work being done in coaching and organising competitions Kerry players have won numerous All-Ireland and World titles. Your support for their match programme will be of great benefit to them in their work of promoting, expanding and developing the game of handball in Kerry. SUPPORTERS CLUB The Kerry GAA Supporters Club are organising an overnight trip for our Round 5 National League game against Donegal on March 25th. This defeat puts added pressure on the team as they prepare for the remaining two rounds against Westmeath at home and Kildare away. The result moves Mayo above Kerry in the division, with the Connacht side now in second place and Kerry dropping from top spot to third. Kildare are top of the table with three points and Westmeath are in fourth place with one point having drawn with Kildare on Sunday. Westmeath had a bye in Round 1 and London had a bye in Round 2. The Round 3 game against Westmeath will be played on St. Patrick’s Day at Austin Stack Park. COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE The first round games in Division 1 of the Credit Union County Senior Hurling League are down for decision on this Sunday at 12.00 noon. The game between St. Brendan’s and Ballyduff is postponed to facilitate the Ardfert players in the All-Ireland Club Final and this game will be played at 2.00 p.m. on Bank Holiday Monday March 19th. The home club is responsible for phoning in the result to the County PRO immediately after the game.
