BOTH TEAMS BRING A WEALTH OF TALENT TO THIS SUNDAY'S SHOWPIECE Although a month behind schedule, because of the replays in the two semi-finals, Feale Rangers and South Kerry are all set for their big day on this Sunday at 2.45 p.m. at Austin Stack Park, Tralee in the final of the AIB County Senior Football Championship. The curtain raiser to the Senior County Final is the replay of the County Under 16 Interdivisional Football Championship Final between South Kerry and Mid Kerry. The drawn game was a great game of football between two very well prepared teams and the replay should provide another thrilling game. The reigning champions of the last three years, South Kerry and their challengers, Feale Rangers take centre stage on County Final Day. Feale Rangers will relish the challenge against the reigning County Champions, South Kerry for The Bishop Moynihan Cup. This year’s Feale Rangers team will hope to go one better than they did in the 1999 final when East Kerry narrowly beat them by just a single point. On their way to Sunday’s final they were, believe it or not, beaten by Mid Kerry, in the opening round but in Round 2 they accounted for St. Kieran’s. They had a narrow win against Ardfert in Round 3 and in the quarterfinal they put on a great display when they narrowly accounted for the highly fancied An Ghaeltacht. They beat Kilcummin in the semi-final after a replay. Having achieved the elusive three in a row last year South Kerry this year are aiming to get closer to the record five in a row held by John Mitchels. In this year’s championship South Kerry defeated Dingle in their opening game before going on to beat Dr. Crokes in the quarterfinal, a game which was a repeat of the final of the previous two years. Then disaster almost struck when they held out against Mid Kerry in their well-recorded trilogy of games in the semi-final. The second semi-final replay saw their form return with a blistering display, which has set them up as strong favourites to retain their title on Sunday. Both teams have a wealth of talent and they have a very good blend of young and very experienced players. It should be a very keenly contested final in that respect. Both are teams eager to do themselves justice on the day. ADMISSION PRICES The cost of admission to Sunday’s County Football Finals is €15 for the stand and terrace, concessions for Students and Old Age Pensioners with current and valid identification is €10. Juveniles under 16 are admitted free of charge. MATCH PROGRAMME The match programme for Sunday’s County Football Final is compiled and edited by Coiste Na nÓg. The programme will be in full colour and will be a great souvenir of this showpiece of Kerry Football. There will be plenty to read including profiles and pen pictures of the two participating teams and some interesting articles. All the proceeds from the programme will go towards the promotion of football and hurling at under age level in the county. The County Final Programme is one of the major sources of revenue for Coiste Na nÓg and we would urge everybody to purchase the programme and support the promotion of our games among the youth of Kerry. MUNSTER CLUB HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP The absence of Michael Conway from their team and conceding three goals in the opening ten minutes proved too much for the Kerry Senior Hurling Champions, Lixnaw in the quarterfinal of the AIB Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship against Clare County Champions, Tulla, last Sunday at Lixnaw. It was a great pity that the game was effectively killed off as a contest after ten minutes. Two years ago Lixnaw came very close to beating the then Tipperary County Champions, Thurles Sarsfields at Semple Stadium. But after such a nightmare start last Sunday there was little hope of them building on the experience they gained two years ago. MUNSTER CLUB SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Kilcummin, Kerry’s representatives in the AIB Munster Senior Club Football Championship, play Lissycasey, the Clare County Champions at Cusack Park, Ennis, on this Sunday at 2.00 p.m. We wish the team, management and supporters the very best of luck. The game is clashing with the County Football Final, only for that I’m sure they would get good support from the county at Cusack Park. They can be assured, none the less, of the good wishes of everybody. MUNSTER CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS UPDATE County Intermediate Football Champions, Annascaul will be away on Sunday November 18th to the winners of this Sunday’s Munster Intermediate Club Championship quarterfinal between Tipperary Champions, Arravale Rovers and the Clare Champions, Ballyvaughan. Cork Champions, Mallow are playing the Limerick Champions, Athea in the other quarterfinal. In the Munster Junior Hurling Championship Quarterfinal Kilgarvan have a home venue, probably Kenmare, against the Limerick Champions, Caherline on either Sunday November 18th or Saturday November 17th. The game is officially fixed for the Sunday but Kilgarvan are hoping to have the game played on the Saturday if Caherline agree to the change. Keel have a long wait until Sunday December 2nd when they will be away to the winners of the quarterfinal between the Cork and Limerick Champions. NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP The second semi-final of the Castleisland Co-Op Mart Novice Football Championship between Cromane and Churchill will be played on this Saturday at 3.00 p.m. at Milltown. Extra time will be played if necessary. Ballydonoghue defeated Tuosist by just a single point after extra time in their semi-final replay last Sunday at Listry. The final will be played on Sunday December 2nd. The final of the Novice Shield between Knocknagoshel and Fossa will be played on Sunday November 18th. COUNTY LEAGUE Three Round 11 games at the top end of the table in Division 1 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League will be played on this Sunday at 12 noon. Kerins O’Rahillys are already through to the final and they are home to Milltown/Castlemaine who need points in order to be absolutely clear of the possible relegation. For Kerins O’Rahillys a win is necessary to have a home venue for the league final. An Ghaeltacht are at home to Ardfert. A win or a draw for An Ghaeltacht will be sufficient for a place in the final and a win for Ardfert will force a playoff with An Ghaeltacht at a neutral venue to decide that place in the league final. Gneeveguilla are at home to Dr. Crokes, who are now clear of any threat of relegation having won all of their recent back games but Gneeveguilla need points to be absolutely clear of the threat of relegation. The vital back game between Listowel Emmets and Austin Stacks will be played on Sunday November 18th with all the remaining games in the last round scheduled for Sunday November 25th. The remaining last round games in Division 2 will be played on Sunday November 18th. In Division 3 the remaining back game between Renard and Tarbert will be played on Sunday November 18th with the last round of games divided between Sunday November 25th and Sunday December 2nd. The three remaining back games in Division 4 will be played on Sunday November 18th with the last round games scheduled, some for November 25th or December 2nd or 9th. In Division 5 the crucial games in the promotion race between Moyvane and Churchill and Ballylongford and Knocknagoshel were not played last Sunday. They have been rescheduled for Sunday November 25th. UNDER 21 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP The two semi-finals of the County Under 21 Club Championship will be played at 3.00 p.m. on this Saturday November 10th. Beaufort play Dr. Crokes at Beaufort and Fossa/Listry play Dingle at Keel in the other semi-final. Extra time will be played if necessary. CAHILL CUP FINAL Scartaglin play Knocknagoshel in the final of the Cahill Cup at 3.00 p.m. on this Saturday at Castleisland. Extra time will be played if necessary. UNDER 21 COUNTY HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Lixnaw play Causeway in the second semi-final of the County Under 21 Hurling Championship on this Saturday at 3.00 p.m. Extra time will be played if necessary. The winners will meet St. Brendan’s in the final on Saturday November 24th. In last Saturday’s semi-final, St. Brendan’s defeated Ballyheigue. MINOR HURLING Lixnaw will meet Causeway in the final of the County Minor Hurling Shield on Saturday November 17th. COUNTY CONVENTION Clubs are reminded that the closing date for receipt of nominations for County Convention is 5.00 p.m. on this Friday November 9th at the County Board Office.
