DEDICATION AND TALENT CARRY US TO OUR FOURTH SUCCESSIVE ALL-IRELAND FINAL... The past few years have been hugely successful for the Kerry Senior Football Team. This is our fourth successive appearance in the All-Ireland Final and this level of success can only be attributed to the unqualified dedication and talent of all the players on the panel and to the unselfish efforts of the management teams of Jack O’Connor from 2004 to 2006 and this year Pat O’Shea. Collectively they have continued to give the Kerry Supporters great memories of a wonderful era of Kerry success. It all started of course with the 1997 All-Ireland Final victory under the management of Páídí Ó Sé when the team captained by Liam Hassett led Kerry to our first title in eleven years. Again in 2000, the Millenium Year, the team captained by Seamus Moynihan and managed again by Páidí Ó Sé led Kerry to All-Ireland victory. Darragh Ó Sé and Mike Frank Russell are the two remaining players from the team that won the 1997 All-Ireland Final and they are aiming to win their fifth All-Ireland Senior medal. Playing in the All-Ireland Final costs a lot of money and in order to raise funds there will be a number of official fund-raising events organised by Kerry County Board prior to the All-Ireland Final and also in Dublin during the All-Ireland weekend. We are appealing to our clubs and supporters to give their full backing and support to the official fund-raising events that have been organised by Kerry County Board leading up to the final. Supporters are also requested to be alert to some unofficial fund raising ventures that are already in operation. These are not endorsed or supported by Kerry County Board and the funds raised are solely for commercial profit. CHURCH GATE COLLECTION The Annual Church Gate Collection in aid of the Kerry Team Training Fund will take place this weekend. We urge all clubs to make a great effort this year especially now that we are in the All-Ireland Final. The proceeds of the collection should be returned to either of the two County Board Treasurers, John McMahon or John Joe O’Carroll or to the County Board Office during the week after the collection is taken up. DUBLIN GOLF CLASSIC The Kerry Association in Dublin are holding a Golf Classic at City West on Friday September 14th. There will be two stand tickets for each entry. The proceeds of the Golf Classic will go to the Kerry Senior Team Training Fund. For further information regarding teams and times contact Yvonne Moriarty at 087 6889698, Kerry Association committee members or the Kerry County Board Office at 066 71 22061. FUNDRAISING BANQUET A fund raising banquet in aid of the Senior Team training fund will be held at The Brandon Hotel, Tralee on Saturday September 8th. A table of ten costs €1,500 and will include two stand tickets. Enquiries for booking tables should be made to County Committee officers, Patrick O’Sullivan, Mike McCarthy, Bernie Reen, John Joe O’Carroll, or the County Board Office (066) 71 22061. ALL-IRELAND WEEKEND EVENTS IN DUBLIN Live music and Disco will be at City West Hotel, Dublin on the Sunday of the All-Ireland Final weekend. Admission is €20. Tickets will be available in Dublin from Kerry Association members and at the Kerry County Board Office during the week leading up to the final. Advance booking is advisable. Arrangements can be made for overnight accommodation at the hotel and a return shuttle bus service will be available from the hotel before and after the game. PLAYERS HOLIDAY FUND The Kerry Senior Football players will be presented with a Toyota Car as All-Ireland Finalists. Tickets for the car raffle are €10 and they will be on sale leading up to the All-Ireland Final. All the proceeds are going towards the Players Holiday Fund. Tickets are available from Club Secretaries and County Committee Officers. Tickets can also be bought by sending your Name, Address & Phone Number together with Cheque or Postal Order to cover the cost of ticket(s) to: - Éamon O’Sullivan, Rúnaí, P.O. Box 125, The Pavilion, Austin Stack Park, Tralee, Co. Kerry. The players and team management have given the Kerry Supporters yet another magnificent year to remember, firstly by winning the Munster Final and they have now qualified for the All-Ireland Final. The Players Holiday Fund deserves to be supported especially by those of us who have got such enjoyment from their performances during the year. This is team’s fourth successive appearance in the All-Ireland Final and this is a tribute to their dedication and to their undoubted football talent. The Players Holiday Fund is also supported by contributions from Croke Park, Bank Of Ireland, Kerry Group, Munster Council and voluntary contributions. There was some negative comment made about the Car Raffle last year but they were very much in the minority and the venture received full backing from the vast majority of Kerry Supporters. Thousands of Kerry people are prepared to spend quite a lot of money during the All-Ireland Final weekend in Dublin so we are asking those in particular to support the Players Holiday Fund by purchasing a €10 raffle ticket. It is a very small extra donation when compared to the other costs that people will incur. We are asking our supporters to show a small appreciation for the players who made it all possible. DRAW FOR ALL-IRELAND TICKETS The Kerry GAA Supporters Club are organising a raffle for 10 pairs of Stand Tickets for the All-Ireland Finals. The cost is €5 a line and each card had 20 lines. Cards have been distributed throughout the county and the Kerry Association in Dublin. All the proceeds go to the Kerry Senior Team training fund. SUPPORTERS CLUB BUS The Kerry Supporters Club are organising a bus to Dublin for the All-Ireland Final. Seats must be booked and paid for at 8.30 p.m. on Monday September 19th at The Listowel Arms Hotel and Ballygarry House Hotel, Tralee. Contact Martin Leane at (068) 48116, John King at (066) 7124229 or Donie O’Leary at (064) 58099 for further information. KERRY TEAM OPEN DAY Juvenile supporters will have an opportunity to meet the Kerry Senior Football Panel at a training session at Fitzgerald Stadium on this Friday evening September 7th between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. Autographed team and player photos will be handed out along with other complimentary items such as posters and some light refreshments. The players will be available before going on to meet the national and local media resulting in a tight schedule for players and management so player autographs on the night cannot be guaranteed, however, pre printed autographs will be freely available. The usual supporters merchandise will be on sale in the stadium. COLOUR With just over one week to go the All-Ireland Final let’s make a whole-hearted effort in every town, village, school, shop, garden and other vantage point to cover this great county of ours in Green and Gold, especially in the areas where our players live and work. Flags, banners and buntings should be seen everywhere in the county. So let’s do it for our team who have done so much for us already this year. COUNTY LEAGUE The majority of the postponed Round 8 games of the Credit Union County Senior Football League were played last weekend. Four of the six games in Division 1 were postponed. These are likely to be played on Sunday September 23rd. Kerins O’Rahillys win against Kilcummin and the postponement of the Rathmore v An Ghaeltacht game has retained the top of the table position for the Tralee club. Ardfert put themselves in strong contention for the league final with an important away win against Milltown/Castlemaine. Elsewhere in Division 1 the vital games in the battle to avoid relegation were postponed. St. Michael’s/Foilmore are promoted as winners from Division 2 after a big win against Castleisland Desmonds. They have opened up a four point gap ahead of Castleisland Desmonds and Currow who are in joint second place. Annascaul lost at home to Waterville and Currow drew with Spa. At the bottom of the table St. Mary’s are already relegated and John Mitchels home win against Dromid Pearses in this round slightly eased their relegation trouble. This defeat for Dromid Pearses sees them slip back into relegation danger. Only a point separates the leading teams, Tarbert and Glenflesk at the top of Division 3. In this round they played each other when Glenflesk travelled to play the leaders, Tarbert and the teams finished level at the end of a pulsating game. Kenmare are still in contention for promotion after a narrow win against Ballymacelligott. Lispole had a good home win against Skellig Rangers to improve their position in mid table. Castlegregory won at home against Renard to get out of relegation trouble and Beaufort’s loss to Legion appears to have ended their hopes of staying in the division and the win got Legion out of relegation trouble. Duagh and Keel are the teams in joint first place at the top of Division 4. Duagh’s game against Firies was postponed and Keel defeated Cromane. St. Pat’s drew with Brosna in a game brought forward from this round and played a few weeks ago. It is also very tight at the bottom end of the table and the victories of Glenbeigh/Glencar against Valentia and Ballyduff’s defeat by Scartaglin games had a big influence on the relegation issues. It is still extremely tight at the bottom of the table with Valentia, Cromane, Ballyduff, Cordal, Ballydonoghue and Brosna all in relative danger of relegation. The big top of the table game between Fossa and Moyvane in Division 5 was postponed. It’s is very tight at the top of Division 5 with Fossa now sharing the lead with Knocknagoshel after the latter easily defeated St. Senan’s. Fossa v Moyvane in this round’s top of the table game was postponed until Friday September 14th. Churchill gained further ground with a good win against Asdee.
