TIME TO SHOW YOUR COLOURS... Kerry play Longford in the Round 4 Qualifier of the Bank Of Ireland Football Championship at 3.30 p.m. on this Saturday afternoon July 29th at Fitzgerald Stadium. The throw in time was brought forward following a request from Longford. The Kerry Minors All-Ireland quarterfinal against Mayo and the All-Ireland Junior Football Championship Final between Kerry and Roscommon will be played as a double bill on this Sunday July 30th at Cusack Park, Ennis. The Minor Quarterfinal is at 2.00 p.m. and the Junior All-Ireland Final is at 3.30 p.m. SUPPORT OUR TEAMS There has been much discussion following the poor turn out of Kerry supporters at the Munster Final replay. The Kerry players and management certainly deserve more from the people of Kerry. The players need to know that the county is behind them and there is only one way to assure them that the county is 100% behind them and that is to turn out in massive numbers on Saturday to give them loud vocal support as soon as they take the field and during the game right up to the full time whistle. The colourful support given to other county teams is sadly missing in Kerry this year. Let’s take our cue from the colourful displays of the Dublin and Cork supporters at their recent championship games. Flags, banners and bunting should be seen in profusion throughout the county this week, especially in the areas where our players live and work. The Kerry Junior and Minor teams are in action on Sunday and let’s also show the players on these teams that we appreciate their efforts and be in Ennis to support them as well. This weekend is crucial for our teams; so let them know that they have our support by cheering them on in Killarney on Saturday and at Ennis on Sunday. The importance and significance of good wholehearted and loud support was never more evident than it was when the Munster Rugby team won the Heineken Cup in Cardif last April. Don’t be shy to show your colours, the Kerry colours, display them in every town, village, garden and flagpole throughout the county this week and in Killarney on Saturday and Ennis on Saturday. Our Kerry teams need to see and hear you to urge them on to victory. Give them that lift when needed and a cheer when they are going well. ADMISSION PRICES ON SATURDAY It is not an all-ticket game and seats in the stand will be on a first come first served basis. No tickets will be issued in advance. Cash will be taken at the turnstiles. Admission for adults is €25 to the stand and €15 to the Terrace. Concessions for OAP’s and Students to the stand is €15 on production of a current and valid identification. Under 16’s will be admitted free of charge to the stand and terrace. SUPPORTERS CLUB BUS The Kerry Supporters Club are organising a bus to Ennis for Sunday’s All-Ireland Junior Final and All-Ireland Minor Quarterfinal. Seats must be booked before Thursday.
The departure times on Sunday are 9.00 a.m. from Killarney, 9.30 a.m. from Tralee and 10.00 a.m. from The Square, Listowel. CHRISTY RING CUP The Kerry Senior Hurling team easily defeated Roscommon in the relegation playoff of the Christy Ring Cup at Cusack Park, Ennis on Saturday last. This result must come as a relief to all GAA people in the county. Winning the Christy Ring Cup is within our capability and is a competition we should do our utmost to win. We need to give the young players who are being coached in the skills of this wonderful game in our schools, clubs and Summer Camps something to aim for and heroes to look up to. Our championship campaign this year was disappointing. At least after winning last Saturday’s playoff we are in the Christy Ring Cup again in 2007. One only has to reflect on the joy and emotion of the Carlow players and supporters last Saturday when they defeated Down to qualify for the Christy Ring Cup Final. Just imagine the promotional value and much needed boost it would give if Kerry had qualified for the final. The people who work so hard to promote hurling in the county, especially in the clubs and in the areas where coaches are introducing hurling for the first time need this promotional asset. A successful Kerry Senior Hurling team will give our young players role models to look up to. We can ill afford to let such a promotional opportunity pass us by year in year out. Under age players who are being introduced to hurling need to be challenged with the desire and ambition to represent their county from under 14 right up to senior. The coaching structures are in place. They are grant aided by Munster Council, Central Council and the Irish Sports Council. A positive return from this investment is within our scope. It can’t be that difficult for everybody involved in hurling to row in the same direction for the future well being of hurling in the county. UNDER 16 & MINOR INTERCOUNTY HURLING The rescheduled Final of the All-Ireland Minor “B” Hurling Championship and the quarterfinal of the Under 16 “B” All-Ireland Championship, both games against Westmeath are arranged for this Sunday at Claughaun, Limerick. The Under 16 game is at 2.00 p.m. and the minor final is at 3.30 p.m. The games, which were due to be played last Saturday, were postponed because of the tragic death of a member of the Westmeath team in a drowning tragedy.
