AIB CO. SENIOR C'SHIP UPDATE...

Reigning County Champions, South Kerry and runners up last year, Dr. Crokes put down a firm marker with emphatic victories over Feale Rangers and Kenmare respectively in their Round 3 games of the AIB County Senior Football Championship last weekend.

Kerins O’Rahillys, St. Brendan’s and Mid Kerry are also through to the quarterfinals with respective wins over Rathmore, Austin Stacks and St. Kieran’s while Dingle and An Ghaeltacht along with Legion and Milltown/Castlemaine must do battle again in replays. Laune Rangers defeated Kilcummin in their Round 2 replay to qualify for a Round 3 meeting with East Kerry.

John Mitchels will play Kilcummin in the Relegation playoff game.

It is hoped to arrange the two replays and the East Kerry v Laune Rangers Round 3 game for the weekend after the Munster Finals.

CHRISTY RING CUP

Kerry are away to Wicklow in their second game of the Christy Ring Cup at Arklow on this Saturday at 3.30 p.m.

We wish the players the very best of luck in this game. It is unfortunate that their preparations have been overshadowed by events that are outside of their control. The players who are willing to play for Kerry on Saturday are to be admired for their willingness to proudly wear the Kerry jersey in spite of the difficulties that have surrounded the team in the past two weeks.

Kerry is obliged to fulfil all intercounty fixtures and we have three games left to play in the league section of the Christy Ring Cup. Failure to fulfil any of these fixtures could have very serious consequences. The players, team management and the hurling clubs are aware of this and we are hopeful of a positive response. Indications are that Kerry will be in a position to fulfil all remaining fixtures in the competition.

MUNSTER MINOR & JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

The ESB Munster Minor Football Championship Semi-final between Kerry and Limerick and the Munster Junior Football Championship Final between Kerry and Cork will be played as a double bill at Austin Stack Park, Tralee on Wednesday next June 28th. The Minor Semi-final will start at 7.00 p.m. and it will be followed at 8.30 p.m. by the Junior Football Final.

MUNSTER FOOTBALL FINAL TICKET SCHEME

The Kerry Senior Football team play Cork in the Final of the Bank Of Ireland Munster Senior Football Championship at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney on Sunday July 12th at 4.00 p.m. The Final of the ESB Munster Minor Football Championship will have a 2.00 p.m. start.

The Munster Final is an ALL TICKET game. Admission to the Stand and the terraces will be by ticket only. Tickets will be allocated to clubs, County Committee delegates, players, team managements, District Boards, Schools Committees and other units as soon as they become available. We will get an extra ticket allocation from Munster Council if the Kerry Minor team is involved in the Minor Final.

Members of the Kerry County Board 2003-2008 Ticket Purchase Scheme are reminded that Friday June 30th is the closing date for receipt of their applications for tickets under this scheme for the Bank Of Ireland Munster Football Final. With the limited seating accommodation at Fitzgerald Stadium members of the scheme are reminded that their entitlement is one ticket per unit.

Applications should be addressed to Éamon Ó’Súilleabháin, Rúnaí, PO Box 125, The Pavilion, Austin Stack Park, Tralee. A stamped addressed envelope should accompany the application and the cost of the Stand Ticket (€30). Members of the scheme who wish to apply in person at the County Board Office should also have a written application with them when they call and have an addressed envelope marked “To be collected.”

Tickets allocated to the scheme will be reallocated to the clubs and other units after the closing date.

As the build up for the Munster Final begins we urge our supporters to show their support for the Kerry team by proudly showing the county colours in every town, village and in rural areas as well. Flags and banners ought to be displayed everywhere. Other counties have done this and the displays of colour really build up a great atmosphere in the weeks and days before the big game.

MUNSTER FINAL STEWARDS

With a big crowd expected to attend the Munster Football Finals at Fitzgerald Stadium on July 9th the clubs of the county are asked to co-operate by recommending members who are willing to act as voluntary stewards. Stewards are welcome from all clubs in the county and they can give their name to their club secretary or contact the event Controller, Billy Doolan directly at Ph. 064 31700, Fax 064 26688, Mobile 087 9729160 or email fitzgeraldstadium@eircom.net or John Lenihan at 087 7763500 before Monday July 3rd. Regrettably names will not be accepted on the day of the game.

All stewards will be positioned inside the stadium and must report to the turnstiles at Dalton’s Avenue before 11.30 a.m. on match day to sign in and receive a briefing on their duties. Refreshments will be provided on arrival and a meal will be provided after the game.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Due to the proximity of the Munster Junior Football Championship Final and Munster Minor Football Semi-final on Wednesday next the quarterfinals of the Castleisland Co-Op Mart County Intermediate, Junior and Novice Championships scheduled for this weekend will not be played. It is hoped to reschedule them for soon after the Munster Finals.

NEW YORK NEWS

The Kerry Junior team in New York recorded their second victory in three games with a hard fought victory over New York Rangers with a score of 2-13 to 2-11. Here we saw the strength and dedication of GAA work at grass roots level when Timmy Curtin, Sean Healy, Jim Mackessy, Jimmy O’Donnell, John Riordan, Tony Stack, Pa Murphy, Eugie O’Sullivan and J. Cregan prepare the pitch, erect goalposts, line and mark the field and put up the flags in record time for the game to get under way.

New York Rangers had a four point lead going into the final minutes but two great goals scored by Langan and O’Donnell gave Kerry a two point victory in the final seconds of the game.

The Kerry team was F. Flood, K. O’Connor, Kilgarvan, J. Glacken, Sligo, P. Hanney, Kenmare, P. Dillon, Duagh, P. Mulvihill, Ballydonoghue, B. Curtin, Austin Stacks, A. Glacken, Mayo, 0-1, T. HANDBALL

Feile Na Gael

Tralee and Ballymac both failed in their bid for honours, at the Handball Feile Na Gael competitions which were held in Cork last Saturday.
Fergal Mc Namara, Lorcan Seymour, Conor Ringland, Brian Og Caball and Kieran O Connell in Boys 40x20 Division Three Group represented Tralee. Ballymac had the following girls in action in 40x20 Division 1-Fiona Griffin, Aine Casey, Ciara Griffin and Nicola Horan. Format for this competition is two sets of doubles, which play two games to twenty-one aces [one point is awarded for each win].
Both Teams met very stiff opposition in their respective divisions. The Ballymac girls won their game against Windgap, but went down to Ballydesmond, Newport and Leixlip. Tralee had a similar outcome in their group-winning one game and loosing one against Liscarroll, while suffering defeat at the hands of Indreabhain, Newport and Down Patrick.
The Tralee boys had a chance to advance to the Semi Final, as their game against Down Patrick was the decider for one of the places. Hopes were high before hand that both Kerry Teams would be involved in the latter stages of their groupings. Brian Caball said that the standard in the boy’s section was extremely good, as was the case in the Girls Division One. Fergal Mc Namara [Tralee] and Aine Casey [Ballymac], both gave a very good account of themselves in the Skills event. Both players came third in their section, in a very competitive and tight competition. Kieran O Connell played some great stuff for Tralee-belying his age as he has two more years’ underage in Feile. Thanks to-Brian Caball [Tralee], Dermot Casey and Brendan O Connor [Ballymac], who put in a lot of time with these two teams.

Munster Juvenile 60x30 Inter Club Competition:
At a recent meeting of the Munster Juvenile Committee, it was decided to run a new Competition in the 60x30 Court. The aim of this venture is to encourage more players to take part in the big alley. There was a very encouraging response from the County’s with a total of sixteen entries overall. An attractive feature of this competition is that school rules are utilized [Hands change after five serves-aces can be scored while serving or receiving]. Kerry will have three teams taking part: Ghaeltacht U15-Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh, Cian Mac Eoin, Eanna Mac Gearailt, Caoimhin O Se, Sean O Se: Ballymac U15-Brian Keane, William Prendeville, Wayne Teahan, Fiona Griffin, Hazel Prendeville, Brian Casey: Ballymac U 13- Eoin Keane, Aine Casey, Ciara Griffin, Cornelia Prendeville, Cormac Lynch, Ritchie Lombard. First round games are on this week: Ghaeltacht are playing in Broadford this Wednesday, while both Ballymac teams are playing Thursday night. Full details listed in fixtures.

Player Profiles
It is intended to build a database of all Adult and Juvenile players within the County .To this end a Player Profile Form is being sent to all Clubs, requesting information and pictures of each player to be submitted. This is an important undertaking, in compiling player information, and building a future Library Of Information for Clubs and the County. Forms will be sent to all Clubs shortly-each Club is asked to compile this information and return it to the County PRO. This is a big undertaking and will require a lot of work and cooperation, between Clubs and Players. Club are asked to compile the information on a CD or DVD if possible-our young players are well capable of doing a lot of the computer work if they have the information. Clubs should use their juveniles to help out in this undertaking, as they are very willing to help out in any way they can. This will be a big help to Club and County PRO in the future, it will also be very beneficial to the Print and Radio media in giving them a formatted history of the players in the County.

Handball Summer Camps
The first of the Handball Summer Camps for 2006, kicks off in Tralee next Saturday June 24. Registration for all players will take place at 10 30am. Forms have been distributed to most clubs at this stage-one change from the printed brochure is the dates for the Ghaeltacht
Cost will be E10 per day. Enrollment will take place at all venues half an hour before the stated starting time. As Ballymacelligott has the only 60x30 Alley in the County, applications are invited from players with experience from other Clubs to join the morning sessions on 18th and 19th July in Ballymac.
