A CLOSELY FOUGHT CONTEST CAN BE EXPECTED...

Cork are our opponents for the third time in this year’s Bank Of Ireland Senior Football Championship, this time in the All-Ireland Semi-final. We wish the very best of luck to our Senior and Minor Football Teams in their All-Ireland Semi-finals at Croke Park on this Sunday.

The minors will be first into action when play Donegal at 12.30 p.m. It will be followed at 2.00 p.m. by the Quarterfinal Replay between Laois and Mayo and at 4.00 p.m. by the Semi-final between Kerry and Cork.

We urge our supporters to get to Croke Park as early as possible to support the Kerry Minors. It is a very important day for the players, their families and their clubs. Playing in Croke Park on such a big occasion is every young player’s dream. They are there on merit having performed well against Tipperary in the Munster Final and in the All-Ireland Quarterfinal where they defeated Mayo. They need your active support as they take another step towards what we all hope will be a place in the All-Ireland Final on September 17th.

The Senior Semi-final has all the makings of another closely fought contest. This all Munster clash for the third time in this year’s championship has captured much attention and pre match banter over the past two weeks as the great Munster rivals, the Kingdom and the Rebels prepare to meet each other again in this year’s championship.

The Kerry team have been back in regular training since their All-Ireland Quarterfinal victory over Armagh. They have prepared and worked hard all year and we earnestly hope that their efforts and personal sacrifices will be rewarded with a victory on Sunday.

SUPPORT OUR TEAMS

In these few days as the semi-final against Cork approaches let’s see plenty more displays of Kerry colours throughout the county. Our senior team has done us proud this year and with the stakes getting higher with every game the best way we can let the players know how proud we are of them is by displaying our Kerry flags and banners in every town, village and garden in Kerry.

So we call on our supporters again to show the Kerry colours and to make the effort to be in Croke Park on Sunday. They need to see and hear you to urge them on to victory.

Tarbert have lost some ground after a good start to the league going down against Kenmare on Saturday last. It’s very tight at the bottom with 5 teams hoping to avoid relegation, each are expected to try hard to avoid the risk of relegation in this week’s round.

CLUB JERSEYS

Many people may not be aware of the initiative at Kerry General Hospital where club jerseys are mounted and framed on permanent display in the corridors. There are just three clubs whose jerseys are not on display and they are asked to contact Joe Wallace without delay to complete the full complement of club jerseys. As soon as the collection is complete it will be officially launched in association with the hospital management.
The management and staff of Kerry General Hospital are to be complimented on this initiative, especially Ardfert County Committee delegate, Joe Wallace who has put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into organising the gathering of the club jerseys.

It will be difficult to have full teams for the playoffs due to the loss of summer-sanctioned players the emigration problems. Joan Kiely Henchy, John Riordan and Pat Carney are working hard to keep Kerry on top in New York.

CÚL CAMPS

The 2006 VHI Cúl Camps conclude this week with the football camps at Austin Stack Park, Fitzgerald Stadium, Mountcoal and Renard. The football and hurling/camogie camps have been very well attended at all the venues throughout the county during the months of July and August. Fully qualified and experienced coaches conducted them and the children were provided with first class coaching in the skills required for the games in an environment of fun and enjoyment. Children took part in mini leagues, fun games and a variety of skill-based activities.
