MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIP

Our Senior and Junior Football teams were both successful in their Munster semi-finals against Tipperary last Sunday at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney. The seniors had a comfortable win in their semi-final but the Juniors had to draw on all their resources to hold on to their one point lead at the finish. Both teams will now face Cork in their respective Munster Finals.

The Junior Final is scheduled for Wednesday June 28th at Tralee and the Senior Final is in Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday July 9th.

The preparations will begin in earnest in the two counties this week. Kerry will shed any hints of complacency as a result of last Sunday’s easy win. They will be mindful of their recent hard fought victory over Cork in the league and not forgetting the tough and strong challenge put forward by Cork in last year’s provincial decider.

Cork will leave no stone unturned in their build up as they start preparations for their stated aim to overturn those two disappointing results. Both counties have now become very familiar with each others style of play and no doubt Billy Morgan in the Cork camp and Jack O’Connor in the Kerry camp will impress on their players that this Munster Final is one that will only be won with each an every player giving their all for the county jersey.

The stage is set for another great battle between the Kingdom and the Rebel County, battles that have thrilled their respective supporters with their whole hearted and highly motivated performances in previous Munster Championship deciders.

As the build up for the Munster Final begins we urge our supporters to show their support for the Kerry team by proudly showing the county colours in every town, village and in rural areas as well. Flags and banners ought to be displayed everywhere. Other counties have done this and the displays of colour really build up a great atmosphere in the weeks and days before the big game.

In the border regions near the Kerry and Cork border, where the rivalry will be most intense, we can expect a really a great atmosphere and good friendly banter in the next few weeks.

The Munster Final is an ALL TICKET game. Admission to the Stand and the terraces will be by ticket only. Tickets will be allocated to County Committee delegates, clubs and other units as soon as they become available.
