LET US ALL SHOW WHOLEHEARTED AND LOUD SUPPORT THIS WEEKEND!... The Kerry senior and minor teams have been selected, the tickets have been distributed and all is in readiness for Sunday’s Bank of Ireland Senior Football Final between Kerry and Mayo at 3.30 p.m. and the ESB Minor Football Championship Final between Kerry and Roscommon at 1.30 p.m. Many thousands of Kerry supporters will have taken up their positions in Croke Park before the minor final to take in the atmosphere for our greatest sporting occasion of the year. Many supporters will no doubt travel without a ticket in the hope that they will be lucky enough to procure one before the game. If not they will view the game on TV somewhere in the vicinity of Croke Park just to be as close as they can to the live game. Let us spare a thought for those countless Kerry people who for some reason or other will not be able to travel to Dublin and would dearly love to there. Our thoughts are especially with those in hospital and the elderly. We know you are with us in spirit and that your good wishes go out to the teams. We think of our Kerry exiles throughout the world. As you watch the live pictures from Croke Park in clubs and bars in all corners of the globe the players know you are there supporting them. On an occasion such as the All-Ireland Football Final our pride in our Kerry tradition always comes to the forefront. Our senior team has done us proud in bringing us to Croke Park to challenge for our 34th All-Ireland senior title and the minors are there hoping to bridge that twelve year gap since Jack Ferriter lifted the Tom Markham Cup back in 1994. This year’s All-Ireland Senior Final has really captured the attention of football followers everywhere. After our Munster Final defeat our rejuvenated senior team took the championship by storm to deservedly reach Sunday’s All-Ireland Final on merit. On Sunday, however, the stakes couldn’t be any higher for our two teams. The All-Ireland title is the prize. We wish the players, the managers, Jack O’Connor and John Kennedy and the selectors the very best of luck. They have the ability and the confidence to win and we support them all the way. We hope to see a massive display of Green and Gold in every part of the county for the remainder of the week and on the way to Dublin over the weekend. The teams will be travelling by train on Saturday and it would be great to see flags flying along the route as the train passes through. We urge all our supporters to get to Croke Park as early as possible to support the Kerry Minors. It is a very important day for the players, their families and their clubs. Playing in Croke Park on such a big occasion is every young player’s dream. They are there on merit having performed well in the Munster Championship beating Cork in the Munster Final, in the All-Ireland Quarterfinal they defeated Mayo and in the semi-final they defeated Donegal. All-Ireland Final 2006 - Full build-up SUPPORTERS CLUB BUS The Kerry Supporters Club are organising busses to Dublin on Sunday. The departure times on Sunday morning are 5.45 a.m. from Farranfore, 6.00 a.m. from Tralee and 6.30 a.m. from The Square, Listowel. The Supporters Club is delighted to be travelling to the All-Ireland Finals. For them it is the culmination of a very active year travelling the length and breadth of Ireland to National League games and the Championship. The players are very grateful to the members for their loyal support at all their games. There is a very good friendship between the players and the members of the Supporters Club and winning both All-Ireland Finals on Sunday next would be the pinnacle of their year. FUND RAISING EVENTS Coiste Chontae Chiarraí thanks very sincerely everybody who contributed so generously to the Training Funds for the Senior and Minor Teams. The Banquet last Saturday night at The Great Southern Hotel, Killarney was very well supported and this Wednesday’s Golf Classic at Lucan Golf Club has a very big entry of competing teams. Early indications are that last weekend’s Church Gate Collection has been very generously supported and the Supporters Club raffle for ten pairs of All-Ireland Final tickets has also done very well. The draw for the ten pairs of All-Ireland Final tickets will take place on this Thursday September 14th at 9.00 p.m. at The Pavilion, Austin Stack Park. PLAYERS HOLIDAY FUND There has been a very positive response from people travelling to the All-Ireland Final to the €10 contribution to the Toyota Car Raffle. All the proceeds go to the Players Holiday Fund. It is only right that the players who have sacrificed so much of their spare time and given such outstanding dedication to be physically and mentally prepared for the All-Ireland Final should have a fantastic team holiday. The many supporters who have no hesitation in generously supporting the Players Holiday Fund have acknowledged their sacrifices and dedication. Tickets can still be bought from club officers or by sending your Name, Address & Phone Number together with Cheque or Postal Order to cover the cost of ticket(s) to: - Éamon O’Sullivan, Rúnaí, P.O. Box 125, The Pavilion, Austin Stack Park, Tralee, Co. Kerry. ALL-IRELAND WEEKEND EVENTS IN DUBLIN Live music and Disco will be at Jury’s Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin on the Sunday of the All-Ireland Final weekend. Admission is €20. It is advisable to purchase tickets in advance to avoid disappointment on Sunday night. Tickets will be available at the County Board Office at Austin Stack Park and in Dublin from Kerry Association members during this week. EDDIE WALSH It was with great sadness that we learned on Sunday last of the death of Eddie Walsh. Eddie won five All-Ireland Senior Football medals with Kerry spanning the decade between 1937 and 1946 as well as Railway Cup medals with Munster. He played on the Kerry team defeated by Cavan in the 1947 All-Ireland Final played at the Polo Grounds, New York. We extend our deepest sympathy to Eddie’s family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis. COUNTY HURLING FINAL Congratulations to Ballyduff on winning the 2006 AIB County Senior Hurling Championship title against Causeway last Sunday. The result was in doubt right up to the closing minutes when Causeway took the lead after a scoring a well-taken goal. In typical Ballyduff fashion they men in Green and White rallied with a goal and held out in those thrilling closing minutes. Earlier in the curtain raiser to the senior final Kilgarvan defeated Kilmoyley B in the County Intermediate Championship Final to win the Tony Murphy Memorial Cup. At Ballyheigue on Sunday last Abbeydorney defeated St. Brendan’s after extra time in the Credit Union County Junior Hurling League Division 3 Final. Later this year Ballyduff will represent Kerry in the AIB Munster Senior Club Championship and Kilgarvan will be Kerry’s representatives in the Munster Junior Club Championship. Munster Council granted special permission to the Kerry Intermediate Championship winners to play in the provincial Junior Club Championship. COUNTY LEAGUE The postponed Round 8 games of the Credit Union County Senior Football League were down for decision last weekend. In their top of the table clash Dr. Crokes defeated the leaders, Kerins O’Rahillys to put the Killarney club into contention for a place in the league final. St. Mary’s look destined for relegation to Division 2 after their defeat by Milltown/Castlemaine and Laune Rangers and Gneeveguilla improved their positions of the table when they shared the points. An Ghaeltacht have also moved up the table after beating Listowel Emmets at Gallarus. In Division 2 victories for Finuge and Ardfert have made them both promotion contenders along with Dingle and Waterville while Annascaul’s defeat has upset their promotion hopes. In Division 3 it would appear that Beale have secured promotion to Division 2 after their victory over Ballymacelligott. John Mitchels and Tarbert are at an advantage in securing the second promotion place. The lead in the Division 4 table changes somewhat after every round such is the competitive nature of the leading teams. Tuosist lost to Churchill and Na Gaeil defeated Firies to put the latter into the lead with Tuosist dropping back to second place. Victories for Fossa and Listry in Division 5 puts them into the chasing group to challenge the promotion hopes of the leaders Cordal, Cromane and Ballylongford. Before the last round of games all back games, particularly those involving teams at the top and bottom end of the tables will have to be played. These back games will be arranged on the same weekends as the championship commencing next weekend September 24th and during the month of October. JUNIOR CUPS Waterville defeated Austin Stacks C in the final of the Barrett Cup played at Beaufort on Sunday last. In the McElligott Cup Final on this Friday at 6.15 p.m. at a venue to be arranged Gneeveguilla meet the winners of the semi-final between Spa and Churchill. Cromane and Firies will meet in the final of Cahill Cup on this Friday at 6.15 p.m. at Milltown. Extra time will be played if necessary. COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES The Round 3 replay of the AIB County Senior Football Championship between An Ghaeltacht and Dingle will be played on Sunday September 24th at 3.00 p.m. at Gallarus and the Round 3 game between East Kerry and Laune Rangers will be played on the same afternoon at 3.30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Stadium. The Keane’s Super Valu County Minor Football Championship semi-final between East Kerry and Dr. Crokes will be played as the curtain raiser at 2.00 p.m. Waterville and Ardfert meet again in their replay of the quarterfinal Castleisland Co-Op Mart County Intermediate Football Championship and Fingue host Dromid Pearses in the Intermediate Championship quarterfinal. Lispole host Skellig Rangers in their Round 1 replay of the Junior Football Championship and in the Novice Shield Quarterfinal Asdee host Churchill. MINOR & U21 HURLING The semi-final draw for the Keane’s Super Valu County Minor Football Championship sees Crotta O’Neills play St. Brendan’s and Kilmoyley play Abbeydorney. In the 13 a side Minor B Championship Kenmare host Ballyheigue in the preliminary round and the winners to meet Causeway in the semi-final. In the other semi-final Lixnaw will play Ballyduff. In the Under 21 County Hurling Championship Ballyheigue play Lixnaw in the quarterfinal and the winners meeting St. Brendan’s in the semi-final. Crotta O’Neills will play the winners of the quarterfinal between Ballyduff and Kilmoyley. Dates for these championships were not available at the time of writing. DEVELOPMENT GRANTS CIARRAÍ ABÚ There is a two hour All-Ireland Final special on Ciarraí Abú this Wednesday night from 8.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. and there are plenty of special prizes to give away as well as Two All Ireland tickets. NEW YORK NEWS The Kerry Juniors lost their semi-final against Armagh by 2-7 to 1-8. After they beat Tyrone by 0-9 to 0-4 in the quarterfinal, playing two games in four days proved too much for a gallant Kerry. The team were missing three summer sanction players who had to return to Ireland. In very hot and humid conditions Kerry led 1-5 to 1-4 at half time. Team mentors, Brendan Henchy, John Riordan and Pa Murphy aim to go one better next year. The Kerry seniors are in the semi-final against Cavan on Sunday September 24th. There is a mad scramble on for match tickets and airline seats for next Sunday’s All-Ireland Final at Croke Park. Team: T. O’Connor, J. Hawley, P. Caffery, P. Dillon, P. Mulvihill, T. O’Shea, P.
