WE CAN EXPECT AN EVEN TOUGHER CHALLENGE AGAINST CORK

After yet another hard fought Munster Championship game against Limerick last Sunday we once again took the spoils in a contest that for much of seventy minutes was going in favour of the Shannonsiders. Having survived two close shaves in last year's Munster Final and replay and again this year in the semi-final we can consider ourselves very lucky to be in the Munster Final against Cork on Sunday July 10th at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Anybody who thought that the result was a foregone conclusion for a Kerry victory was well off the mark. The Limerick team set about their task in a very determined fashion despite going a goal down in the opening seconds. They defied all the pre-match predictions and set their stall to once and for all get revenge for all the narrow defeats they had to endure over the past few years.

As for the Munster Final against Cork we can expect an even tougher challenge. Home venue will give the Rebels the impetus to put on their best display in front of their home supporters. It seems a long time since we last played Cork in the Munster Final and all the colour and glamour of the clash will surely bring out the supporters of both counties in unprecedented numbers to the banks of the Lee for what promises to be a great contest between two of the greatest rivals of Gaelic Football.

The Munster Final is an ALL TICKET game. Admission to the Covered and Uncovered Stand and the terraces will be by ticket only. Tickets will be allocated to County Committee delegates, clubs and other units as soon as they become available.

As the build up for the Munster Final begins we urge our supporters to show their support for the Kerry team by proudly showing the county colours in every town, village and in rural areas as well. Flags and banners ought to be displayed everywhere. Other counties have done this and the displays of colour really build up a great atmosphere in the weeks and days before the big game.

In the border regions near the Kerry and Cork border, where the rivalry will be most intense, we can expect a really a great atmosphere and good friendly banter in the next few weeks.

HANDBALL

It was a busy weekend all round in Handball Circles, at National and International Level. Maria Daly came home with the US Nationals U19 Singles Title, while the Ghaeltacht Team of Eilis Ni Luing, Colm O Luing, Caoimhin O Se, Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh and Cian Mac Eoin won the Feile Na Gael Div 3 40x20 Title. Colm O Luing brought home an extra medal as he won a silver medal in the skills event
Maria Daly took part in the 2005 USHA Nationals, which were held in Houston-Texas over the last week. The Ballymac girl played in three events; Girls U19,Womens Open Singles and Senior Singles. She won two titles U19 Singles and Senior Singles. The Senior Singles Title is a first for her, and this is the second time that she has won the U19 Title when she defeated Katie Sedgewick in the Final.

She knew going out that the Women's Open would be extremely tough, and that's the way it turned out. Allison Roberts beat Maria in her first round match, Maria did not settle in any of her games. If she had played anywhere near her usual form she could have taken it. Most of the competitors were older and far more experienced than the Kerry girl. It only takes one or two shots in a tight game to turn a match-this cuteness comes from years in the Court. Roberts who is a sister of the legendary Vern Roberts, went all the way to the Final.

Tony Healy [Ballydesmond] went down to Paul Brady [Cavan] in the Semi Final of the Mens Open . Brady went on to beat Danny Bell [Canada] in the first non all American Final-the Cavan native is the first Irish player to take the US Nationals Singles Title. Tony Healy teamed up with Ricky Mc Cann in the Men's Open Doubles, and they took the Doubles Title against Emmet Peixoto and Marcos Chavez.

Feile Na Gael
Feile Na Gael took place in Cork and Limerick venues over the weekend, with four Club teams taking part. An Ghaeltacht-[ Boys 40x20 Div3], Ballymac-[Boys 40x20 Div 2, and Girls 40x20 Div1], Lispole [ Boys 40x20 Div1]. Format as follows-four players play as two doubles [two games to 21, with one point awarded for a win]
An Ghaeltacht took their Divisional Title, after a grueling series of four games on the day. This is Gaeltacht's second Feile Title in two years, as Fiona Ni Cathain led them to victory in the 2003 Girls Div 2 Event. The West Kerry group played their first game aginst Liscarroll, where the honours were shared-one point each. They accounted for Brian Boru in the next round, and then overcame Downpatrick in the Semi Final. Ghaeltacht saved their best handball until the Final, where they defeated Liscarroll by nine and six. The West Kerry side just got better and stronger as the day progressed-a credit to Fr Kieran and Eileen Long their two mentors. This caps a great year for the Ghaeltacht in the 40x20 code-it is richly deserved for the amount of work they have put in. Lispole were pipped by just one ace in their Divisional Semi Final, while the two Ballymac teams met superior opposition on the day. Aine Casey put up a great show in the skills, when she came third overall-her sister Catriona won the Skills event in 2001.The teams lined out as follows
Ghaeltacht: Eilis Ni Luing, Colm O Luing, Caoimhin O Se, Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh, Cian Mac Eoin
Ballymac:-Aine Casey, Fiona Griffin, Ciara Griffin, Nicola Horan.
Ballymac:-Brian Casey, Brian Keane, William Prendeville, Eoin Keane, Wayne Teahan
Lispole:Darragh O Suilleabhain, Niall O Chonchuir, Eoin O Chonchuir, Caoimhin O Mhuircheartaigh, Caoimhin O Se

Garveys-Handball Camps-2005
Ollie Cassidy and Clive Counihan are visiting schools, in the different Club Areas to organise the 2005 Summer Camps. At this stage nearly all the orgainsing is done, with just a few loose ends to tie up. If there are players who are not available to go to their own local Summer Camp, they are more than welcome to join any of the other camps
The following is the timetable of events for the Summer Camps
