HARD FOUGHT MUNSTER VICTORY...
It was a tough, hard fought and hugely
competitive Bank Of Ireland Munster Senior Football Final played in
sweltering summer heat at Páirc Ui Chaoimh, last Sunday. The
game lived up to the pre-match predictions of a closely fought contest
played as a typical derby encounter that makes Kerry and Cork Munster
Finals so special. Both teams gave it everything they had and the rival
supporters were held in suspense right up to the final whistle.
The fact that we have now progressed to the All-Ireland quarterfinal
on August 7th is excellent for team morale and with time on our side
to make a strong challenge to retain our All-Ireland title much will
be asked of the players in the lead up to the next obstacle. We will
not of course know our opponents until the quarterfinal draw is made
after the Round 4 qualifiers have been played. In that draw the four
Provincial champions are on one side of the draw and they will be paired
against one of the four qualifier winners. We cannot be drawn against
either Cork or Limerick should they advance to the quarterfinal stages
from the qualifiers.
In the minor final on Sunday our team were beaten by a late Cork goal.
They are however still in the All-Ireland series and will play in the
All-Ireland quarterfinal.
On Wednesday last at Páirc Uí Rinn our Junior team suffered
a heavy defeat against Cork in the provincial decider and we take this
opportunity to thank the players and team management for their efforts
throughout the campaign.

CHRISTY RING CUP
After last Saturdays drawn game against Wicklow at Austin Stack
Park, the Kerry senior hurling team are effectively out of the running
for a semi-final place in the Christy Ring Cup. It is a pity that they
will not have the opportunity to advance in the competition because
the promotional value of playing in the semi-final and final would have
been a great boost for the game in the county.
On this Saturday at Austin Stack Park they play Carlow in the last round
of the league section. The time of the game was not available at the
time of writing. Kildare and Carlow are the front runners in Group 2B
and are already through to the semi-finals but Kerry will need to win
this game in order to avoid the relegation section of the competition.
