THREE SECOND HALF GOALS END KERRY'S CHALLENGE....

Kerry's first round game in the Christy Ring Cup played at Naas on Saturday last ended in a four-point defeat. The home side proved too strong in attack as three second-half goals killed off the Kerry challenge and guided the Lilywhites to the top of the Group B table. Being only one point in arrears at the end of the first half our hopes of overtaking Kildare in the second half suffered a heavy blow when the home side scored their three second half goals to give them the momentum once more.

In the other first round game played last Saturday Carlow defeated Wicklow by a goal. Kerry have a bye in Round 2 which is being played on this Saturday and we are at home to Wicklow in Round 3 on Saturday June 25th. In Round 4 we are away to Mayo on Saturday July 2nd and our final game in the group section is at home to Carlow on Saturday July16th. The top two teams from the group will qualify for the semi-finals against the two top teams from Group A on July 31st and the final will be played at Croke Park on Sunday August 14th as a curtain raiser to the All-Ireland semi-final.

KERRY V LIMERICK

Our senior and junior football teams on play Limerick on Sunday June 19th in the Munster Semi-finals at The Gaelic Grounds, Limerick. The Senior Game will start at 4.00 p.m. due to live television coverage and the junior semi-final has 2.15 p.m. start.

We urge our supporters to travel to Limerick in big numbers and give our teams the support they deserve. We don't need reminding of all the closely fought contests between Kerry and Limerick at Senior level in last few years and especially last year's Munster Final at The Gaelic Grounds and the replay at Fitzgerald Stadium.

MUNSTER SEMI-FINAL TICKET SCHEME

Members of the new Kerry County Board 2003-2008 Ticket Purchase Scheme are reminded that this Friday June 10th is the closing date for receipt of their application for tickets under this scheme for the Bank Of Ireland Munster Football Semi-Final between Kerry and Limerick on Sunday June 19th at Páirc Na nGael, Limerick.

Applications should be addressed to Éamon Ó Súilleabháin, Rúnaí, PO Box 125, The Pavilion, Austin Stack Park, Tralee. A stamped addressed envelope should accompany the application and the cost of either the Covered Stand Ticket (€25) or the new seated Uncovered Stand (€20).

It is expected that the tickets that will be allocated to Kerry at The Gaelic Grounds will be similar to those allocated for last year's Munster Final. Scheme members who attended that game will recall that their covered stand tickets were close to the 13m line and that the tickets in the uncovered stand were more central. It is appropriate that scheme members are aware of this situation in advance of deciding which ticket they should purchase.

Members of the scheme who wish to apply in person at the County Board Office should also have a written application with them when they call and have an addressed envelope marked "To be collected."

Tickets allocated to the scheme will be reallocated to the clubs and other units after the closing date.

COUNTY LEAGUE

The Credit Union County Senior Football League has passed the halfway mark and points are now very much on the minds of all the teams with promotion prospects and the fear of relegation coming very strongly to the forefront from now on. Round 7 of the League in Divisions 1 to 4 and Round 8 of Division 5 will be played this weekend. Most games are on Saturday at 8.00 p.m. and there are a small number of games on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. In Division 1 the game between Laune Rangers and Dingle is on Saturday at 6.30 p.m. and in Division 5 Dr. Crokes B and Scartaglin will play on Friday at 7.30 p.m.

After last weekend's round Dr. Crokes are still on top of Division 1 even though their game in that round against Castleisland Desmonds was postponed. The game between An Ghaeltacht and Laune Rangers was also postponed. Defeats for Dingle, St. Mary's and Annascaul means that they will need to pick up points in the remaining rounds if they are to avoid relegation.

Gneeveguilla are still unbeaten at the top of Division 2 with maximum points from the six rounds and in last weeks round they had a narrow away victory over Skellig Rangers. Dromid Pearses and Spa are in close contention with victories over Sneem and Ballymacelligott last week. At the bottom of the table Beaufort, Ballymac, Currow and Skellig Rangers need points to avoid the danger of relegation.

Ardfert got back to winning ways with a victory over Keel in Division 3 and are now just one point adrift of the leaders, Finuge who had to settle for a share of the points in their game against John Mitchels.

Renard are on top in Division 4 and like Gneeveguilla in Division 2 they have maximum points from their six games. Tarberts' victory over Brosna has them in second place ahead of Firies and Glenbeigh/Glencar in joint third place.

Ballyduff's draw with Fossa and Ballydonoghue's victory over Templenoe has Ballydonoghue in second place, just one point behind Ballyduff in Division 5.

RESULTS:

The home club is responsible for phoning the match result to the county PRO immediately after the game finishes. Results should be phoned to (066) 7124754 or faxed to (066) 7181040. Saturday's results should be phoned in Saturday night.

Short match reports can be faxed to the above fax number or e-mailed to prokygaa@gofree.indigo.ie at any time on Saturday night or on Sunday. They can also be phoned after 8 o'clock on Sunday night. These reports need only be sixty or seventy words long and should include the half-time score and the important scores and scorers of each half as well as any incident that was of significance in the game, such as a penalty or an important save by the goalkeeper. The full-time score, however, should be phoned immediately after the game in order to meet the deadlines for the national papers and radio.

The small number of reports from the home clubs after last week's round was very disappointing and as a result their players are not getting the exposure and publicity to which they are entitled. Let's hope we have a big improvement in this round.

The draw for the third round of the AIB County Senior Football Championship will be made on Wednesday night during the launch the new weekly GAA Programme "Ciarraí Abú" on Radio Kerry from 9.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.

SYMPATHY

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Patsy Cremin, Spa and President of Coiste Na nÓg on the death of his wife.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis.

HANDBALL

After a lull in the playing scene for a couple of weeks, action resumes next weekend at National and International Venues. Exercising their skills will be the top Lady Player in the Country, and two of our up and coming young players. Maria Daly flies out to Houston-Texas on Friday next, to take part in the 2005 USHA Nationals. Maria will be playing in two different events; Girls U19 and the Women's Open Events. Maria and her sister Sharon entered the 2002-US Nationals which were held in Las Vegas. Maria won the U19 Girls Singles and she partnered Sharon to take the U19 Doubles Title.

The games will take place in Houston Downtown YMCA's 15 Court Complex, during seven big days of the four-wall nationals. Houston is the fourth-largest city in the U.S, and the heat over there at this time of the year is pretty intense [Could do with some here now!].

It is said that Croke Park is Kerry's second home, the same could be said of Maria and the USA. She has played there many times since the age of fifteen, and has enjoyed tremendous success over the years.

On the National Scene two of the Counties young handballers, travel to Kingscourt next Saturday. Aine Casey [Ballymac] and Jason Mc Kenna [Glenbeigh] are taking part in the National Handball Day for Boys and Girls. Jason-representing Glenbeigh Nat School and Aine-representing Scoil Mhic Easmainn Tra Li, will be contesting the U13 Singles Event in their respective codes. These two players are not only representing their Schools, but also their Club, County and Province. Aine and Jason won the County Finals, and then proceeded to take their Provincial Crowns. These are two very promising players, and already have a lot of experience under their belts. Aine was on the Munster Girls Provincial 40x20 Team, that went down to Connacht in the Girls Provincial All Ireland Semi-Final a month ago. Jason was in the U13 Doubles 40x20 pairing, that were very unlucky to loose their Munster Final this year.

It is not so long ago that Maria was playing in the same age group as Jason and Aine. She is now the best player in the Country and one of the best in the World. Mabye someday these two players along with more of our young County Players, will travel across the Atlantic to play Handball in the States. Good luck to Maria, Jason and Aine next weekend, we wish ye all the best.
Garveys-Handball Summer Camps-2005

The first of the Handball Summer Camps kicked off last weekend in Tralee, in what turned out to be a very successful outing. Ollie Cassidy and Clive Counihan are visiting schools, in the different Club Areas to organise the 2005 Summer Camps. At this stage nearly all the orgainsing is done, with just a few loose ends to tie up. We need the full support of everyone, to make these a success. We would be looking at a number of at least fifteen participants, at each camp to make them viable. A Press Release will be issued shortly with full details of Camps in each area.
