VERY SATISFYING LEAGUE CAMPAIGN...

Our victory over Tyrone last Sunday, impressive as it was, failed to put us through to the semi-finals of the Allianz National Football League. Mayo's tally in their victory against Westmeath on the basis of scores for determined that both Tyrone and Mayo qualified for the semi-finals from Division 1A. Even though Kerry and Mayo were equal both on points and on score difference, in accordance with the league regulations the rank order for second and third places on the table was then decided on the total scored by each of the two teams in the seven rounds played.

This division of the league was so delicately poised that the two teams to qualify for the semi-finals were only known after Sunday's last round results and score differences were calculated.

On a positive note Kerry's league campaign has been very satisfying considering we only got down to serious training in mid January after the players returned from holiday. Our victories over Westmeath, Mayo and Tyrone in our last three games of the campaign were very gratifying and will no doubt be seen as strong indications of Kerry's resolve to successfully defend our Munster and All-Ireland titles in 2005. The Kerry players and team management are as enthusiastic as they were last year and they are eager for more success.

Without a competitive game before we meet Tipperary in the first round of the Bank Of Ireland Munster Championship at Semple Stadium, Thurles on Sunday May 29th the players and team management will put those intervening weeks to very effective use in preparation for what we all hope will be a successful championship campaign.

We thank our supporters for their great support for the team during the league, especially those who made the long journeys to Ballybofey and to Castlebar. Let's hope that the supporters will continue to give their loyal support to the team during the championship campaign, where if we progress in Munster all our games in the Munster Championship this year will be away games. If we get over Tipperary in the first round we are away to Limerick in the semi-final.

JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL RULES

Congratulations to the Ireland Junior International Rules Panel on their victory over Australia in the three match test series. Well done especially to Shane Hennessy and Stephen Browne from Castlegregory who are celebrating their part in Ireland's successful test series. The result of the third Test Match between Ireland and Australia played at Fitzgerald Stadium last Sunday was the deciding game of the 2005 Junior International Rules Series. Ireland won the series by two games to one.

Shane Hennessy and Stephen Browne from Castlegregory, are both students of Tralee CBS, The Green. Their families, their club and their school can feel very proud of their achievement.

NATIONAL HURLING LEAGUE

Kerry play Westmeath in the first round of Series 2 in Division 2 of the Allianz National Hurling League at Kilmoyley on this Sunday at 2.00 p.m.

In Series 2 Kerry will also play Offaly and Derry who finished in the top three in Division 2A. In the second round we are away to Offaly and in the third and final round we have a home game against Derry.

The stakes will be much higher at this stage of the League and Kerry will have to improve on their performances if they are to make an impact. It is games such as those we are now about to play in Series 2 that will assess our possibilities for the championship games in The Christy Ring Cup later in the year.

COUNTY LEAGUE

Round 3 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League will be played this weekend with games on Saturday evening at 6.30 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. This round, for the most part, is made up of local derbies and with our county players available to play with their clubs there is sure to be great interest in these derby games at venues throughout the county this weekend.

After the second round played two weeks ago Austin Stacks and the holders Dr. Crokes are setting an early pace again this year with the two teams on top of the Division 1 table on maximum points after two rounds.

In Division 2 Kerry Senior Football Captain Declan O'Sullivan made a welcome return to football this year and was part of Dromid Pearses' comfortable second round victory over Ballymacelligott. Waterville and Gneeveguilla share the top of the table with Dromid Pearses on maximum points.

In Division 3 Ardfert and Kenmare have set the pace with full points from their two opening rounds. Glenflesk and Castlegregory are just one point behind them.

Tousist got their second successive victory in the round as did Renard to share the top of the table in Division 4. Firies, Churchill and Brosna are just one point behind the leading pair.

In Division 5 Derrynane and Ballylongford have set the early pace.

Round 4 will be played on the weekend of April 17th.

RESULTS:

The home club is responsible for phoning the match result to the county PRO immediately after the game finishes. Results should be phoned to (066) 7124754 or faxed to (066) 7181040. Saturday's results should be phoned in Saturday night.

Short match reports can be faxed to the above fax number or e-mailed to prokygaa@gofree.indigo.ie at any time on Saturday night or on Sunday. They can also be phoned after 8 o'clock on Sunday night. These reports need only be sixty or seventy words long and should include the half-time score and the important scores and scorers of each half as well as any incident that was of significance in the game, such as a penalty or an important save by the goalkeeper. The full-time score, however, should be phoned immediately after the game in order to meet the deadlines for the national papers and radio.

There has been a very big improvement by club PROs in sending County League match reports so far this year. It is part of the job description to give a profile to the club players in the county league and every effort should be made to ensure that this continues throughout the playing season.

It would be desirable to have more reports from divisions 3, 4 and 5 as well all the games played in divisions 1 and 2. . With a different group of home clubs involved for this round let's hope the return is at least equally as good as the two previous rounds.

AERTEL:

Page 573 Network Two is the Kerry fixtures and results page on Aertel. This has proven to be a very useful and popular service and with the help of the club PROs phoning in results promptly it provides the viewer with a very efficient results sequence. Overseas, the Aertel results can be accessed through a link downloaded from the Kerry GAA Website, http://kerry.gaa.ie

HANDBALL

AGM: Munster Handball Council
The AGM of the Munster Handball Council, took place on Wednesday March 30th in Adare. Tim Mc Swiney from Ballymacelligott who is the current Chairman of Kerry Handball Board, was elected the new Chairman of the Munster Handball Council. He is the first ever Kerry Chairperson of the Munster Council, and will serve a three year term. Tim was welcomed in to his new post by outgoing Chairman-Willie Roche from Clare. The Ballymac man sits on the National Strategic Competitions Review Board, and has a wealth of experience to bring to the Munster Council. We wish Tim well for his term on the Provincial Council, no doubt there is a busy time ahead of him but he is more than capable of rising to the challenges that will occur. Maureen O Shea stepped down from her post as Delegate to the Munster GAA Council. She was highly praised for her enormous contributions to the Provincial Council, and the National Body as former Chairperson of the Strategic Development Task Committee.

All Ireland Championships/Munster Championships
Maria Daly won her Semi Final game in the Ladies Senior Singles, against Anna Wrynn [Kildare] last Saturday in Nenagh. She won the game on a convincing scoreline, but this does not tell the whole story. The Kildare girl played very well, but Maria performed to a higher level in many aspects of the game. Maria is playing very well at the moment, it is going to be a mouth watering contest in the Final against either of the Antrim Sisters. Ashley Prendeville continued her progress in the Minor Championships, when she had a comfortable win against Karen Finnegan in Ballymac on Sunday last. She is the hot favourite to take the Minor Singles Title on her current form. Nicola Horan and Cornelia Prendeville won their Munster Juvenile Semi Final against Tipperary.
Looking forward to next week; Maria and Sharon Daly take on Fiona Healy and Anna Wrynn [Kildare] in the Senior Doubles Semi-Final. Lisa Falvey plays Emer Coyle [Roscommon] in the Junior Singles Semi Final, and Karen Lawlor and Ashley Prendeville are up against Karen Finnegan and Nicola Lambe [Galway] in the Minor Doubles.
The 40x20 Juvenile Semi Finals take place next weekend at Connacht venues with the following players in action. Darragh O Suilleabhain [Lispole], Fiona Ni Chathain, Ciara Ni She, Eilis Ni Luing, Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh [Ghaeltacht], Edel Murphy [Glenbeigh] and Sharon Twomey, Brenda Carmody [Ballymac].

FBD Irish Junior Nationals

The FBD Junior Nationals took place over the weekend in Kingscourt Co Cavan. This year the Irish Nationals is being combined with the USHA Trials. Previous to this the Irish Nationals, and the USHA Trials were two separate competitions. The winners of the Nationals will represent Ireland on the Irish Team, in the US Junior Nationals in December 2005. The competitions were played down to Semi-Finals this week.
Kerry had three girls in action in the Junior Nationals Karen Lawlor, Ashley Prendeville and Sharon Twomey. Karen was knocked out in the Quarter Finals, and entered the Consolation Round, where she beat Louise Hayes from Clare. Ashley Prendeville and Sharon Twomey both won their Semi Finals, to reach the Finals of their Sections which will be held on April 29-May 2nd. Ashley and Sharon are more than capable of winning their respective Finals. It will be tough, but they have the talent to come through.

Match Programme
Choiste Liathroid Laimhe Chiarrai wish to extend their gratitude to Choiste Chontae Chiarrai, for their permission to produce the Kerry V Tyrone Match Programme. It was produced by Eamonn Moriarty-a North Kerry man through and through. Eamonn did his usual highly professional job in putting it all together-if there was an Oscar for this kind of work he would sweep the Boards. He is a very talented individual in this line of work, a "Steven Spielberg" of production if ever there was one. There were many comments on the Quality and production of the programme-all positive. Many thanks also to Willie O Connor for all his help and advice, and to our advertisers, article editors, and all the Clubs for their help on the day. A concerted effort by everyone-Mile Buiochais!
