Antrim secured a hugely valuable six-point win over Kerry in Tralee this afternoon, pushing them to the top of the table.
The Glensmen had seven different scorers from play in the first half while playing with the wind, but still struggled to shake off the mumps-stricken home side, and a goal from Jordan Conway would have left the Kingdom nicely poised, just 0-12 to 1-6 adrift.
A goal from Domhnall Nugent gave them a more substantial lead to defend, however, and just when it looked as if Kerry were inching their way back into contention, Conor McCann rattled in a second goal after 55 minutes to see Antrim over the line.
Kerry now face an anxious wait for next weekend’s refixed game in Tullamore, where they need Antrim to take points off Offaly. From Antrim’s perspective, anything better than 36-point defeat will see them through to the decider.
