The deaths occurred recently of 2 great hurling men, John Young (Kilmoyley) and Tom Kenny (Crotta). John - John played for Kilmoyley for many years before emigrating to the USA in 1983. He captained the Kilmoyley team that won the North Kerry Under 21 Championship in 1974. He made 2 Co. Senior Final appearances, unfortunately losing on both occasions – in 1983 at midfield and as captain in the loss to Lixnaw in 1983 and again at midfield against Ballyduff in 1988.
Tom had a long playing career at senior level with Crotta, from 1956 - 1979, the highlight being his role as captain in their last Co. Senior Championship win in 1968 when they defeated Austin Stacks. He also played in 4 losing finals – 1957, 1967, 1972 & 1979. Tom also captained St. Patricks. (a Crotta/ Abbeydorney combination) to a Co. Minor title in 1954 and later managed the Crotta senior team in the 90’s.
