Causeway won the North Kerry Under 21 Hurling Championship on Friday evening last when they defeated Lixnaw in the Final by 3 - 9 to 1 - 9. The game was played at the John Mitchel’s G.A.A. Complex. The winning joint captains, Evan Murphy & Jason Diggins were presented with the Paddy Kelly Cup by Jacques Kelly and Joe Walsh [Rúnaí, NKHB]. Player of the Match was Gavin Dooley [Causeway] while the match referee was John Hennessy.
The last remaining North Kerry fixture for 2018, the junior league final between Lixnaw and Causeway is due to be played this weekend. Details will be on the North Kerry Hurling Facebook page. All Co. Board fixtures have been completed.
North Kerry Awards
The North Kerry Hurling Board Annual Awards function will take place at Ballyroe Heights Hotel on this Friday, 30 November, commencing at 8.00p.m.
In an all Kerry clash in the Munster Under 19 E hurling competition, quarter final last week. Tralee CBS had a 2 - 14 to 1 - 12 win over Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí. Well done to I.T. Tralee on winning the 2018 Electric Ireland Higher Education Senior Hurling Division 2 League title. In the final, played at the Ballykelly GAA pitch, Kildare, last week they defeated Ulster University Jordanstown by 2 - 9 to 2 - 7. Notably 7 Kerry players were involved with the team – No. 4 Cathal Kearney (Ballyduff), 6. Fionán Mackessy (St. Brendan’s), 10. Gavin Dooley (Causeway), 11. Michael Leane (Ballyheigue), 15. Michael Slattery (Abbeydorney), 16. Adam O’Sullivan (Crotta O’Neill’s), 25. Shane Nolan - (Crotta O’Neill’s). Team Manager was Tadhg Flynn (Causeway) while the selectors were Mark Ryall and Mark Shanahan (Tralee Parnell’s).
St. Pat’s East Kerry
The St. Pat’s East Kerry Hurling Club Annual Awards Night was held at the Kilcummin G.A.A. Clubrooms last Friday. Special guests were East Kerry Chairman Johnny Brosnan, County Board Hurling Officer Paudie Dineen and outgoing Kerry Coiste na nÓg Chairman Tom Keane. The main award recipients were: South Kerry U12 Player of the Year - Gearóid Sugrue; South Kerry U14 Player of the Year - Hugh Walsh. East Kerry Awards - U12 Player of the Year - Gavin O'Sullivan; U14 Player of the Year - Cormac Rowe.
St Pat’s Overall Player of the Year - Ava Moore (U10 and U12). Senior Awards - Senior Player of the Year - Ger Lenihan; Club Person of the Year - Denis Coffey. The richly deserved Hall of Fame Award went to long serving former player, administrator and referee, Dan Kelliher.
