Congratulations to Crotta O’Neill’s on winning the 2018 Acorn Life Co. Under 21 Hurling Championship. In the Final played at Austin Stack Park last Saturday they had a 0 - 13 to 0 - 11 win over Lixnaw. Full credit to both teams for serving up an excellent contest although played in very heavy rain throughout. After the match the trophy was presented to the winning captain, Jordan Conway, by Gerard McCarthy, Kerry’s Munster Council delegate. Match referee was John Ross [Ballyduff] while Crotta centre half back Brendan Mahony won the Man of the Match Award. Crotta last won this competition in 1992.
Lixnaw have a home game against Cashel King Cormac’s (Tipperary) on Sunday, 28 October in Round 1 of the Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship. In the Munster Junior Hurling Championship quarter-final, Kilgarvan will have an away fixture against the Limerick champions (Tournafulla or Killeedy) on Saturday, 10 November. Joe McDonagh Cup
The draws have been made for the 2019 Joe McDonagh Cup senior hurling competition. 5 teams will be competing – Kerry. Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and Antrim. Kerry will have 2 home games – against Laois and Offaly while they will travel to Antrim and Westmeath. Meanwhile Fintan O’Connor has been ratified as manager of the Kerry senior hurling team for a further 3 year term.
North Kerry update
The first qualifying group in the Tom Healy Under 15 Hurling Tournament was played on Friday evening last at Healy Park, Abbeydorney. Five teams competed – Abbeydorney, Ballyduff, Kenmare/Kilgarvan, Crotta and Templeglantine. After each team played each other, Abbeydorney with 4 wins and Crotta with 3 wins qualified for the Finals. Group 2 games will take place on this Friday, 19 October commencing at 7.00p.m. Teams taking part will be St. Brendan’s, Kilmoyley, Ballyheigue and Lixnaw. The competition is hosted by Abbeydorney Hurling Club and sponsored by the North Kerry Hurling Board.
The Tom Healy Under 15 camogie Tournament will go ahead at Abbeydorney on this Wednesday, 17 October commencing at 7.00p.m. Teams competing will be Cillard, Tralee Parnell’s, Killarney and Millstreet.
The Tralee Parnell’s Autumn Hurling Academy starts on Friday, 19 October and runs for 6 weeks at the Tralee Sports Complex. It is open to new and current players and a hurley and helmet will be available for new players. For Under 6 (2012/2013/2014) - indoor training for boys and girls from 6.00 to 6.45pm.; Under 8 (2010/2011) - indoor training for boys 6.45 to 7.30pm.; Under 10 (2008/2009) - Astro pitch training for boys 6.00 to 7.00pm.
