Hurling by Tommy O’Connor
The big hurling action this weekend will be the All-Ireland Under 21 B Hurling Championship [Ritchie McElligott Cup] Final, Kerry versus Derry. It will be played at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny at 2.00p.m. as a curtain raiser to the All-Ireland Under 21 A semi-final between Cork and Wexford. Kerry will be aiming to retain the title they won last year.
County Senior Hurling Championship
The way is now clear for the semi-finals of the Garvey’s SuperValu Co. Senior Hurling Championship [Corn Neilus Ó Floinn] on the weekend of 11 August. St. Brendan’s and Crotta exited the competition last weekend when losing to Lixnaw and Kilmoyley respectively. The semi-final parings are as follows – Lixnaw V Casueway and Kilmoyley V Ballyduff following the draw on Monday night.
Co. Intermediate Hurling Championship
Semi-Final results from Wednesday, 25 July - Kilgarvan 2 - 14 Kilmoyley 0 - 11; Causeway 3 - 19 Dr. Crokes 3 - 15. The final between Kilgarvan and Causeway is scheduled for Saturday, 18 August at 5.00p.m., venue to be confirmed.
County League, Division 2
The semi-finals of the Credit Union Co. Senior Hurling League Division 2 have been fixed as follows: Wednesday, 1 August – Causeway v Dr. Crokes. Wednesday, 8 August – Kenmare v St. Brendan’s. Both games at 7.30p.m., first named at home and extra time if necessary.
County Minor Hurling League

The draw for the 2018 Co. Minor Hurling Championship resulted as follows: Kenmare /Kilgarvan v Ballyheigue/Causeway; St. Brendan's v Lixnaw; Tralee Parnell's v Crotta O'Neill's; Ballyduff v Abbeydorney. These games are scheduled for Monday next, 6 August at 7.00p.m. (first named at home)
Hurling Cúl Camps 2018
The 2018 Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camps for Hurling in Kerry continue next week, to be hosted by the Crotta O’Neill’s club at Dromakee from Monday, 6th until Friday, 3rd August. As usual, children may register on the first morning of each Camp. The remaining camps will be at Kilmoyley & Tralee Parnell’s - Caherslee (13 - 17 August). The cost is €60 per child with reductions for additional members of families. Open to primary school children, boys and girls between 6 and 13 years of age. Co. Under 16 Hurling Championship semi-final results from Friday last: Ballyduff 2 - 9 Kenmare/Kilgarvan 2 - 7; Abbeydorney 4 - 8 Ballyheigue 1 - 11. Plate semi-final - Lixnaw 1 - 11 Crotta 1 - 7. St. Brendan's play Lixnaw in Final. These finals are provisionally scheduled for this Thursday.
The St. Pat’s East Kerry Hurling club will be hosting a Poc Fada competition on Saturday, 11 August. Venue will be Killarney Racecourse where proceedings get underway at 10.00a.m Competitions at Under 12, Under 16 and senior levels. Details on the club Facebook page.
North Kerry update
The North Kerry Under 12 Blitz competitions took place at Lixnaw & Ballyheigue last Saturday. In Group 1, St. Brendan’s emerged victorious while the home side Ballyheigue won Group 2. Thanks to all who facilitated the competitions, in particular the co-ordinators, Patrick Corridon, Benny Stack and John Griffin.
The North Kerry Under 14 A championship Final [Michael Hennessy Memorial Shield] between Ballyduff and Ballyheigue is due to be played on this Sunday, 5 August. Check with clubs for confirmation of venue and time.
