Scor na nOg - Success for Kerry Clubs
Report by Jack Hennessy (Scór PRO)
It was a fantastic evening for Coiste Scor Chiarrai at last Sundays; (January 7th) Munster Finals of Coiste Scor Na Mumhan held in the Community Centre, Ovens County Cork where the huge Kerry contingent of supporters celebrated in style with the Spa Set Dancers, East Kerry Board who in fact are the current Munster and All Ireland champions and Na Gaeil from the Tralee/St.Brendans Board in Leiriu who completed a marvellous double to book their place at the All Ireland Finals of Scor Na Nog to take place in the Knockrea Arena, Sligo I.T. on Saturday February 17th 2018.
However spare a thought for our remaining four representatives; Spa East Kerry Board in Figure Dancing, Dearble Quirke, Tralee/St. Brendans in Recitation, Instrumental Music by Kilcummin, East Kerry Board and Glenflesk. East Kerry Board in Ballad Group who all performed brilliantly but failed to get the Adjudicators nod on this occasion. Still it was a great honour for Coiste Scor Chiarrai to have so many involved at this level of competition and all the participants can feel proud of their performances; doing their respective Clubs and County proud on the day.
So the following go through to the All Ireland Finals along with the Quiz.
Set Dancing. Spa, East Kerry Board.
Erin Holland, Meghann Cronin, Siona Moynihan, Orlaith, Spillane, Liam Spillane, Gary O Sullivan, Cian O Sullivan, Eoghan Mulvaney.

For the record the remaining winners on the day were; Cork in Solo Singing, Recitation, Instrumental and Ballad Group. Figure Dancing went to Tipperary.
COUNTY QUIZ FINAL
The County Finals of Scor Na nOg Trath Na gCeisteana Coiste Scor Chiarrai took place at the Austin Stack Park, Pavilion on Thursday evening last January 4th and despite only 7 Clubs; Dr. Crokes, Spa, Legion, Kilcummin, Laune Rangers, Abbeydorney, Kenmare taking part; the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. It is well documented by now that the County Finals of Trath Na gCeisteanna is a separate event from the remainder of the Scor Na nOg programme where the County Final winners would automatically qualify for the All Ireland finals to battle it out with the remaining 31 Counties for National honours.
Cultural Officer of Coiste Scor Chiarrai, Christy Kileen got proceedings underway and welcomed everybody to the venue while Quiz master for the occasion Fionan Fitzgerald, Assistant Secretary of the County Board was very popular with the participants and did an excellent job
So after a titanic battle with all Clubs well in the hunt up to the final round Spas dominance in this discipline over the past 4 years came to an end; but only by a single point; (57—56) when their District Boards neighbours Dr. Crokes were crowned the 2017/18 County Scor Na nOg champions and have now qualified for the All Ireland Finals on Saturday February 17th in the Pegasus Ballroom, Clayton Hotel, Sligo with a 11am starting time.
Its worth recalling that Spa Club have contested the last 3 All Ireland Finals but were deprived of a 3-in-a-row last year. The Dr. Crokes winning team consisted of Mark Cooper, Treasa O Sullivan, Cillian Hickey and Jamie Muldoon and were presented with their winners medals by the Cultural Officer of Coiste Scor Chiarrai; Christy Kileen.
However the Spa Club didn’t go empty handed on the night as they received their runners-up medals (Dara Lawlor, Laura Fleming, Sean Hickey, Daniel O Sullivan) and to finish off a great year in Scor Na nOg for the Spa Club their Cultural Officer Eileen Aherne was presented with the overall Club of the year at this level of competition.
Next up Scor Sinsear County Finals Sat Feb 24th . All District Boards take note that all District Board Finals must be completed well in advance of this date. Date to be confirmed for County Quiz Finals.
