Castleisland Mart Intermediate Championship Semi Final

An Ghaeltacht 4-12 St Marys 1-9

A dominant An Ghaeltacht side were convincing winners of the first of the Castleisland Mart  Intermediate Championship semi finals played at a wet and windy JP O’Sullivan Park in Killorglin today. The winners dominated possession for long periods, even when playing against the elements, as the likes of Padraig Ó Sé, Cathal Ó Luing, Brian Ó Beaglaoich, Rob Ó Sé and Colm Ó Muirceartaigh excelled.

Marys had first use of the elements which blew towards the corner flag, and Bryan Sheehan and Marc Ó Sé swapped early points but then Sean Cournane struck for a goal for the Marys which was quickly replied to with points by Eánna Ó Conchúir and Padraig Ó Sé. Sheehan and PJ Mac Láimh then swapped points and St Marys led by 1-2 to 0-4 at the end of the first quarter. An Ghaeltacht continued to have the lion’s share of possession and after Sean Cournane pointed twice for Marys, the winners got the boost of a goal from Ciarán Ó Coileán just short of the half time whistle to leave the West Kerry side 1-8 to 1-4 ahead at the break and wind advantage to come.

An Ghaeltacht continued where they left off on the restart when Sean M Ó Conchúir goaled but St Marys did plug away with 3 points from the very accurate Bryan Sheehan to leave five points between the sides before Dara Ó Sé struck for goal number three for An Ghaeltacht at the three quarter stage to leave the scoreboard reading 3-10 to 1-8 for the winners. The remainder of the half was played out with An Ghaeltacht protecting their lead and Ógie Ó Sé finished off a fine performance by the Corca Dhuibhne side when scoring their fourth goal four minutes from time.

The winners will now play Templenoe or Laune Rangers who play in the other semi final on September 23rd in Fitzgerald Stadium.
