Kerry Minors face Clare in Minor decider

The curtain raiser in Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday will see Kerry Minors in action against Clare a team they already defeated in Round 1. That game against the Banner boys back at the start of April saw Kerry dominate the early stages to build up a big lead but they subsequently failed to keep up that momentum as Clare battled on to the bitter end. Whether on that evening Clare had one eye on the qualifier route or not given that the winners had to play Cork is hard to know but it came as no surprise to find that they went on to defeat Waterford and Tipperary before accounting for Limerick in the semi final. Kerry of course went on to defeat a fancied Cork side by an impressive ten points in Páirc Uí Rinn at the start of May and they certainly looked impressive on that occasion with team captain David Clifford showing the way. An injury to Donal O’Sullivan spoilt that win but otherwise they have a clean bill of health.

Clare, under the management of Seamus Clancy, will no doubt have benefited from their four games to date and they certainly proved themselves to be a fairly resolute bunch when they got to grips with Kerry in the second half of that Munster opener. Whether or not they have improved enough in the interim to cause an upset we will have to wait till Sunday to find out. Throw in for the game is 12 noon and Saturday 8th is the date fixed for a replay.

The Kerry minor team will be announced on Friday evening at 8pm and posted on the Kerry GAA Website.
