Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Mr Shane Ross TD today visited the Kerry GAA Centre of Excellence in Currans to view the ongoing development at the centre which is due to open next month.

Currans Development – Current Status

4 Sand based pitches and drills area fully installed & completed. The completed facility will ultimately incorporate six pitches.

Clubhouse consists of 8nr changing rooms, gym, dedicated medical /physio & rehab area, canteen, kitchen, offices & cafe due for completion in May 2017

The first Phase of the Development (Clubhouse and four pitches) will be available for use from June 2017 onwards

Pitch Lighting to be installed in July / August 2017

The current fund-raising that is taking place will determine when the remaining items come on stream

International fundraising initiatives will continue this year

Overall Cost of Phase 1 is just over €6m


I.T. Tralee

The project involves a strategic alliance between Kerry CLG and IT Tralee.

The works consist of the Development of a Sports Academy representing a Global Best Practice model of social inclusion through Sport, physical activity and inclusive physical education. Facilities will be wholly owned by Kerry CLG.

Other Features which will be available to Kerry CLG on an agreed shared basis include an international sized indoor sports arena, High performance Gym, teaching gym, hydrotherapy suite, fully equipped teaching spaces, suite of auditoria, an existing outdoor synthetic pitch and an existing full size sand based pitch.

Work is envisaged to commence in April 2017. The facility would then be available to use in early to mid 2018.
