East Kerry v St Brendans in County Minor Final   23/08/2017

East Kerry and St Brendans have qualified for the final of the Keanes Supervalu Minor Football Championship following victories over St Kierans and Kenmare District respectively this evening.

East Kerry 2-15  St Kierans 4-8

With Keanes Supervalu Killorglin Man of the Match David Clifford in fine form, East Kerry had the better of this semi final in Austin Stack Park for long periods though they did get a scare when conceding three goals in as many minutes in added time. Two pointed “45s” and a free from Clifford put East Kerry on the way and they led by 8 points to 4 at the break.

A goal by Sean Doherty in the 41st minute put the winners 1-10 to 0-5 clear but Kerry minor Eddie Horan responded with a goal for St Kierans in the 51st minute to narrow the gap to 5 points but when Michael Devlin goaled for East Kerry a minute from time the winners were 2-15 to 1-8 clear and a man to the good. Two goals from Eamonn Nolan and another from Eddie Horan in added time made for a nervy ending for Seamus Moynihan’s charges however.

East Kerry: David Clifford 0-9 (2 “45s”, 2 frees), Sean Doherty 1-3, Michael Devlin 1-1, Cian Gammell and Ian Roche 0-1 each.

St Kierans: Eddie Hooran 2-2, Eamonn Nolan 2-0, Patk Moriarty 0-3 (1 free), Shay Walsh 0-2, Luka Brosnan 0-1.

St Brendans 3-13              Kenmare District 1-16

Three goals in the first five minutes gave St Brendans the perfect start at Lewis Rd but they had to withstand a hectic finish before qualifying for the Keanes Supervalu Minor Football Championship final. Goals by Dara Devine, Jason Mortimer and Michael Kelliher scored those early goals and the winners were 3-1 to 0-0 clear before Kenmare opened their account through Tadhg Siochrú in the 6th minute. With the Keanes Supervalu Man of the Match Gearoid Fennessy in superb form and Kerry minor Donal O’Sullivan also prominent from both play and frees, Kenmare fought their way back but still trailed by 3-7 to 0-9 at the break.

St Brendans had two goal chances that hit the post in the second period as Kenmare District continued to chip away at the deficit but the goal they needed  - from Joe Doyle in the 58th minute – came too late to affect the result and Kerry Minor Diarmuid O’Connor, who joined the fray for the second half, had the insurance score at the end.

St Brendans: Dara Devine 1-4 (2 frees), Michael Kelliher 1-2, Jason Mortimer 1-1, Eoin Greaney 0-3, Sean Donnellan, Patrick Roche and Diarmuid O’Connor 0-1 each.

Kenmare District: Donal O’Sullivan 0-8 (5 frees), Joe Doyle 1-1, Michael McCarthy 0-3, Tadhg Ó Siochrú 0-2, Dan McCarthy and Colin Crowley 0-1.
