When Paul Galvin runs out onto the Croke Park turf on Sunday he will make his 50th Championship appearance for Kerry. In doing so he becomes the 21st Kerry man to achieve this milestone. The list of 21 makes for impressive reading and includes 7 of the current Kerry starting 15. In a reflection of the ever increasing amount of games being played in the modern era nearly half of Kerry’s current side have reached this noteworthy benchmark. The reason for this is of course the fact that Kerry are attempting to reach their 12th All Ireland semi-final in 13 years and ultimately their goal is to reach a 10th All Ireland Final in 13 years since the turn of the Millennium. Included in the list of 21 are four members of the famed O’Sé family from Ventry and five An Ghaeltacht club men in total. There are three players from the Dr Crokes club and 8 East Kerry men in total on the list. South Kerry provides 3 players, there are 3 from Tralee, 1 from Mid Kerry, 1 from Kenmare and Paul Galvin who becomes the first man from a North Kerry club to reach the 50 appearance total.
The 21 members of the Kerry Championship 50 Club are as follows –
Tomás O’Sé (An Ghaeltacht) 83
Darragh O’Sé (An Ghaeltacht) 81
Tom O’Sullivan (Rathmore) 76
