Acorn Life Under 21 Football Championship Semi Finals

Kenmare District and Mid Kerry Qualify for Acorn Life Under 21 Final

Kenmare District and Mid Kerry have qualified for the  Acorn Life Under 21 Final following semi final victories over Dr Crokes and East Kerry Respectively in the semi finals played this evening.

Kenmare District 2-18 Dr Crokes 3-11

It is Kenmare District who march on to the final of the Acorn Life U 21 championship following a high scoring encounter in Kenmare this evening. In the opening half Dr Crokes were in command for the opening periods with Paul Clarke and Michael Casey causing the Kenmare defence a lot of trouble and the Killarney side led by 3-3 to 0-4 at the end of the first quarter following goals from Paul Clarke, Adam and Mark O’Shea. The introduction of Patrick Clifford for the district side settled things down and with Sean O’Shea and Killian Spillane getting more and more into the game the District really started to motor and by half time the deficit was down to three points thanks to a goal from Killian Spillane, Kenmare District 1-10 Dr Crokes 3-7.

In the second half the District side really took over with Acorn Life Man of the Match John Mark Foley, Dara O’Shea and Patrick Clifford driving from the back, Sean O’Shea commanding the middle and Patrick O’Shea, Brian O’Sullivan and Stephan O’Sullivan all contributing on the score board with Mikey Casey, David Shaw and Billy Courtney keeping Dr Crokes in touch. Tadgh Siochru was a great link man for the District over the hour along with Gearoid Fennessey who himself scored a fine point and after the sides were on level terms with ten minutes to go the killer blow came when after a goal mouth scramble Kevin Price hammered the ball to the Crokes net.

There were some superb performances for the winners  from Sean O’Shea at mid field scoring 5 points (3 from frees)  and Killian Spillane leading the attack with 1:4 (0-2 frees)  but it was John Mark Foley at centre back who drove the team on , fetching some great lockouts, covering all over his defence, putting in some great hits and blocks who gets the Acorn Life Man of the Match.
