Credit Union Co. Senior Hurling League Division 1 Final

    Ballyduff   4 – 12

    Kilmoyley 3 – 12

Ballyduff added the Credit Union Co. Senior Hurling League, Division 1 title to their Co. Championship title on Saturday last at Abbeydorney, where they had a 4 – 12 to 3 – 12 win over Kilmoyley. It was played in excellent conditions in front of a good attendance. Ballyduff fielded 13 of their championship final starting fifteen while Kilmoyley were also missing two of the team named on the programme.

Kilmoyley opened with a first minute goal by Maurice O’Connor and set the early pace. Mikey Boyle opened the Ballyduff account in the 3rd minute with a point. Things were fairly competitive in the first quarter, after which Kilmoyley led by 1 – 2 to 0 – 4.

Then came a Ballyduff goal-scoring blitz between the 16th and 22nd minutes, a blitz that yielded 4 green flags  –  2 from Aidan Boyle and 1 each from Pádraig and Liam Boyle. This changed the landscape completely, with Ballyduff going ahead by 4 – 4 to 1 – 3 after 22 minutes play. Kilmoyley replied with points from Maurice O’Connor (2), Joe McElligott and Daniel Collins to keep the scoreboard ticking over but at the end of the half Ballyduff held a 3 goal lead, 4 – 6 to 1 – 6.

On the resumption, Maurice O’Connor hit his second goal to narrow the gap. In fact Kilmoyley chipped away at the lead and actually outscored Ballyduff in the second half by 2 – 6 to 0 – 6. Yet Ballyduff always stayed ahead, aided considerably by the accuracy of Padraig Boyle from placed balls. In the 60th minute, Kilmoyley, with a goal, brought the deficit down to just 1 goal and the Ballyduff defence had a few nervous moments before they finally clinched the title by three points, 4 – 12 to 3 – 12.

After the game, Gerard McCarthy, Oifigeach Iomána Coiste Contae Chiarraí presented the Nicholas Scollard Cup to the winning captain, Mikey Boyle while the Man of the Match Award went to Pádraig Boyle.
