There were a number of important Senior Football League Playoffs down for decision over the Bank Holiday weekend to decide outstanding Promotion and Relegation issues:
Division 4 Title Playoff – Keel are Division 4 Champions
Keel 2-4
Lispole 0-9
Goals win games and so it proved at Strand Rd this afternoon where Keel were crowned SFL Division 4 champions following a narrow victory over Lispole who had to play 55 minutes of the game with only 14 men after Breándán Dorgan was dismissed for two yellow cards. Lispole got the first three points of the game but Keel’s first score was a goal from Luke Flynn in the 16th minute and their first point, from Gary Sayers, came just before the break to leave the score 0-5 to 1-1 in favour of Lispole.
The winners had their second goal soon after the restart when a free by Gary Sayers dropped short and Colm O’Neill finished to the net at the second attempt. Lispole were dependant on Declan O’Sullivan(0-6) for scores but Stephen Cahalane in the Keel goal made numerous fine saves to keep his net intact. Lispole did have a late chance of a point from a free to level it and force extra time but Keel held out.

It was at this stage that Lios Póil went on to kick three unanswered points, with Nollaig Ó hUigín among the scorers. A superior Dr Crokes had the upper hand on Beale on Sunday in the County Senior League, Division 4. Played in ideal conditions in Páirc de Staic, the cross-field breeze slightly favoured Beale in the first half. A great strike for goal by Ian Blake in the opening minutes set the tone for a first half, where there was very little between the teams. The former Kerry minor showed well for Beale, but his efforts dropped short of the crossbar. At the other end, Brian O'Shea and PJ Lawlor picked off the points for Crokes, while Ger O'Gorman and Callum McSweeney kept Beale in contention. The Beale defence stood firm against Crokes' attacks with young Johnny O'Sullivan and the experienced John Griffin well in control. There was nothing between the teams on the field of play and the minimum separated them to leave the half time score Dr. Crokes 0-8, Beale 0-7.
Dr Crokes meant business from the off on the changeover, running at the Beale defence and raising the green flag twice within ten minutes. Midfielder, Paul Clarke, made a great run from his back line, cutting right through Beale attempts and struck for goal. Their second goal set them up and it would have been three only for a great save by Beale keeper. Dr. Crokes lorded midfield with Cillian Fitzgerald in the half back line breaking up attack. Beale were now struggling, as Crokes controlled the game. Their third goal goal sealed it to leave the final score: Dr.Crokes (B) 3-14, Beale 0-13.

Castlegregory and Sneem/Derrynane shared the spoils in a hard-fought Division 4 Round 3 encounter, played at Castlegregory on Saturday evening. With two wins to date, the home side might have been considered favourite by some to take the points. Sneem/Derrynane, however, had the upper hand when the teams met last year. As both sides were setting up defensively, space up front was at a premium. Anto Kelliher opened the scoring with a point from play after three minutes. He followed with a pointed free following good work by Minors, Michael Scanlon and Jimmy O’ Grady. Full forward Ronan Hussey and corner forward Ian Galvin posed a major threat for the home defence and contributed all of their first half scores. Further points by Scanlon and Kelliher (2) for Castlegregory left the half time score at five points each.
Castlegregory introduced Micheál Ó Sé at half-time and began to establish a better foothold at midfield. Sneem/Derrynane threatened to pull away with two points from Ronan Hussey early in the second half. A pointed free by Alan Fitzgerald and a fine effort by Micheal Ó Sé from 45 metres kept the home side in touch . Posing a double blow to their chances, Castlegregory lost Micheál Ó Sé and Enda Whelan to injury with ten minutes remaining. With the teams deadlocked at nine points each, they won a free in the left corner. Alan Fitzgerald pointed the pressure kick to put his team ahead by a point with two minutes remaining. Despite some great defending throughout the game, the home side could not deny their opponents and when the ball fell to Ian Galvin 40 metres out, he pointed to draw the game. Final Score: Castlegregory 0-10, Sneem/Derrynane 0-10.

Another goal from Colm O’ Mahoney quickly followed before Daniel O’ Donoghue and Ger Mccarthy for Duagh and Jimmy O’ Grady exchanged points. Anto Kelliher found the net on the 11th minute to extend the Castlegregory lead. They struggled to maintain their opening dominance and were confined to two further points from Anto Kelliher and Colm O’Mahony. As the matters proceeded, the game was interrupted by numerous late tackles and off-the ball incidents, which limited it as a spectacle. The result, however, was a foregone conclusion as the match entered the final quarter, but Castlegregory failed to capitalise on their dominance with a succession of wides. Aaron O’ Connor managed to breach the Castlegregory defence to goal for Duagh. Jeremiah Kelly followed with a point in what was Duagh’s final score. Anto Kelliher (2) and Jordan Quirke increased the winning margin for the home side, who were comfortable winners on a score of 3-9 to 1-8.
